What benefits to expect when you stay at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium or Platinum Elite member?

The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur opened in 2016 with a total of 208 rooms. This property usually requires 30,000 to 40,000 points per night for award stays.

Like all other properties under this brand, The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur does not have a club lounge that is accessible to Platinum members and above.

Location

The hotel is located in central Kuala Lumpur. Although it is very close to KL Sentral train station (with high-speed trains to the airport), it is not that convenient to walk to the hotel, especially if you are arriving with luggages.

  • 10 mins walk to KL Sentral station
  • 12 mins walk to NU Sentral mall
  • 45 mins drive to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL)

Special packages to consider

Anyone, regardless of membership status, can book a STARS package at this hotel to receive the following complimentary benefits:

  • Breakfast (daily)
  • Dinner for two (per stay)
  • Room upgrade
  • Early check-in
  • Late check-out

At this hotel, the STARS rate usually costs just a little bit more (about MYR 16)! It’s a no-brainer to book this rate as you will continue to get all Marriott Bonvoy membership benefits and night credits.

AMEX cardholders may also book the same rate through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR).

Arrival

Upon arrival, we had our temperatures taken and were assisted with our luggages before being directed to the reception.

I booked an AMEX FHR rate (more about this later) and also applied a Marriott Bonvoy Suite Night Award for the Caroline Astor Suite, which was cleared 2 days prior to arrival!

I was also offered a 4pm late check out upon request, as a Titanium member.

Breakfast

Breakfast is complimentary for STARS bookings as well as Platinum members and above. It was held as a buffet at The Brasserie restaurant.

Breakfast quality was good for a hotel at this price point.

Dinner at The Brasserie

As mentioned above, booking a STARS/FHR rate entitles you and a partner to a complimentary dinner.

The complimentary dinner comes in the form of a 3-course menu as well as non-alcoholic drinks. The menu offers a selection from 3 choices per course. The hotel uses the same menu every day.

Food quality was alright. I would have preferred a US$100 credit, like what you get in most other luxury properties when booking a STARS/FHR/Virtuoso rate.

Other facilities

There are 2 infinity pools in the hotel, 1 for residences and another for hotel guests. Each one of them face opposite directions and are located next to each other.

The gym was of a decent size but I feel that equipments are too close to one another.

My ratings

This is how I am rating my stay, after considering the hotel’s usual nightly rate:

Bottom line

It was a great stay in one of the most luxurious hotels in Kuala Lumpur and also a good use of a Suite Night Award.

Comparing against the other Marriott Bonvoy property at a similar price point, W Kuala Lumpur, I think this property is behind when it comes to service, room furnishing and F&B quality.
