What benefits to expect when you stay at The Westin Kuala Lumpur as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium or Platinum Elite member?
The Westin Kuala Lumpur opened in 2003 and was last renovated in 2012. It has a total of 318 rooms. This property usually requires 15,000 to 20,000 points per night for award stays.
I managed to book it for just 13,200 points from a Marriott Bonvoy PointSavers offer. The hotel’s usual cash rate for the base room is around MYR 520 (US$116).
Location
The hotel is located in central Kuala Lumpur along the bustling shopping district of Bukit Bintang. The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur and JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur are also located close by.
- 3 mins walk to Pavilion mall
- 10 mins drive to Petronas Twin Towers
- 45 mins drive to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL)
Arrival
I got in touch with the hotel prior to my stay to (shamelessly) let them know that I will be spending my birthday there.
And to my surprise, I was generously upgraded to the Chairman Bi-Level Suite upon arrival! The one and only Chairman Suite is the highest room category in the hotel and is categorized above the Presidential Suite.
Of course, I did not expect to stay in the amazing suite on both nights (I’m not thaaat shameless) and suggested to the receptionist that I will be prepared to move to another room after breakfast on the following day.
Chairman Bi-Level Suite
Room 3488 is 300sqm / 3,228sqft in size.
There is nothing like staying in a bi-level suite and it never failed to make my jaw drop! The size of the living area was just spectacular.
On the upper floor, there was even a private fitness area with a treadmill!
The suite is also connected to 2 other rooms, one on each floor. This can be useful for bridal parties or large families.
Check out the video tour of this room on our Instagram page.
1-Bedroom Apartment
Room 1313 is 80sqm / 861sqft in size.
After spending one night in the glorious Chairman Suite, I moved to the 1-Bedroom Apartment. The apartment section of the hotel has a separate lift lobby.
I was pleasantly surprised by the good condition of the room as in my experience, apartments tend to have more wear and tear, probably caused by lots of cooking and long staying guests.
Club Lounge
Platinum members and above have all-day access to the Club lounge, which serves snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.
The evening cocktail was served as a buffet from 5.30 – 7.30pm with a good spread of hot food, deserts, wines and beer on tap.
Food quality was very good and the club lounge offers a good rotation of hot food daily.
Breakfast
Breakfast is complimentary for Platinum members and above. It was held as a buffet at The Living Room restaurant.
Variety was huge for a hotel at this price point and the food quality/freshness was good.
However, I found that the staff could be a little friendlier. Many of them were moving tables and chairs around and talking loudly towards the end of the breakfast hours, almost hinting at guests to clear the area.
Breakfast in the Club Lounge
On the second day, we had our breakfast at the club lounge and enjoyed it a lot more! The buffet was smaller but it had all the food that I wanted.
We also enjoyed the calmer environment, compared to what we experienced at the main restaurant on the previous day.
Other facilities
The swimming pool had a bar, Splash, next to it but I found the size and shape not ideal for lap swimming.
The gym is large, with well-maintained equipment.
