How to fly in Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 Bulkhead Business Class
How to choose Bulkhead seats
Because of the ultra-generous legroom, the bulkhead Business Class seats on Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts are probably the most spacious out there; almost as good as First Class!
Couples booking the center seats can enjoy a “double bed” configuration; which is pretty luxurious for Business Class.
Other Business Class seats on the same aircraft force passengers to lay down at an angle, with their feet in a narrow tunnel.
Here’s what the foot well on a non-bulkhead seat looks like:
Only 8 out of 48 Business Class seats (~17%) in the aircraft are bulkhead seats. So, how can you score one of them?
Fortunately, Singapore Airlines is only flying one type of Boeing 777 aircraft, and all of them have the same seating configuration, as shown below. Similar seat types can also be found in some Airbus A350 aircrafts of the airline.
The bulkhead seats (in rows 11 and 15) are located at the front of both Business Class cabins.
So here’s how you do it.
- More than 96 hrs before departure: Bulkhead seats are only open for selection to PPS Club members
- 96-hr mark till 48-hr mark: Travellers will not be able to make any changes to their seat selection online. To choose a bulkhead seat during this period, travellers will have to contact SQ via phone, or through the live chat function on singaporeair.com.
- 48-hr mark: Online check-in opens. Travellers can select any available seats online
So, remember to set your alarm, because these seats are worth it!
How to book with Miles
Travellers can fly in Singapore Airlines Business Class with KrisFlyer miles, which can be earned through the best travel/rewards credit cards in Singapore.
These seats can also be booked through partner Frequent Flyer Programs like EVA Air Infinity MileageLands, Air Canada Aeroplan, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan and Avianca LifeMiles.
Pre-flight
Prior to take-off, I was greeted and offered a beverage of choice. Unfortunately, Singapore Airlines is still not offering hot towel service at this time.
Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 Bulkhead Business Class seat
The seats are laid out in a 1-2-1 configuration and can be transformed into fully-flat beds. And as mentioned earlier, these bulkhead seats come with fantastic legrooms!
It was definitely an overkill on this short flight, but I would be very happy with this seat when flying long haul.
Amenity kit
I was pleasantly surprised to see an amenity kit at my seat on this short flight! In recent times, Singapore Airlines First and Business Class passengers would only get one on longer flights and upon request.
Dining
Food quality from the in-flight menu was great on this short flight.
Airport lounge access
Flying in Singapore Airlines Business Class from Jakarta CGK Airport gets you entry into the newly-opened Saphire Plaza Premium Lounge.
My ratings
This is how I am rating my Business Class experience (vs other airlines):
Seat | 10/10 |
Bed | – |
Dining | 9/10 |
Privacy | 8/10 |
Storage | 10/10 |
Service | 9/10 |
Cleanliness | 10/10 |
Bottom line
Singapore Airlines’ bulkhead Business Class seats, found in just 8 of 48 seats on its Boeing 777 aircrafts, offer fantastic space for passengers who take the extra effort to select them a few days prior.
It doesn’t come with doors and this seat type, which was first launched in 2013, isn’t the best-looking business class seat out there. However, I don’t know of any other seats, in the same cabin class, that are more spacious than this.
The complete Business Class experience involves other factors like airport lounge, food, beverages and service; and Singapore Airlines offers a pretty good experience in those areas (although, nowhere near the best).
But if in-flight space is all you care about, there is nothing better out there!
Additional reminder: These seats are not guaranteed at time of booking and requires manual selection about 96 hours prior to departure.
