I took this short flight to re-qualify for Qatar Airways Privilege Club Gold membership (oneworld Sapphire) during my 2022 year-end Mileage-Mattress run.

Malaysia Airlines had unveiled these new Domestic/Regional seats in July 2022.

Pre-flight

Prior to take-off, I was offered a beverage of choice and a hot towel.

These modern-looking recliner seats are laid out in a 2-2 configuration, in a cabin with just 12 Business Class seats.

It is more than sufficient for my short 40-minute flight, easily beating the fake blocked-middle-seat “Business Class” seats that are adopted by most European airlines.

Dining

Despite the ultra-short flight duration, I was served delicious, hot satay onboard. I had about 15 minutes to finish the meal, before the flight attendants started preparing the cabin for landing.

Airport lounge access

Flying in Malaysia Airlines Business Class domestically from Kuala Lumpur gets you entry into Malaysia Airlines Domestic Golden Lounge, a large domestic lounge with modern furnishing and made-to-order food.

Bottom line

Flying in Business Class for flights that are less than 1 hour long is always going to be an overkill but the overall experience lived up to my expectations.

The Johor Bahru-Kuala Lumpur route on Malaysia Airlines is convenient for Singapore-based travellers to use for oneworld mileage runs!
