What benefits to expect when you stay at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium or Platinum Elite member?

The hotel was built in 1997 and renovated in 2018. It has a total of 398 rooms.

As of the time of writing, members will typically need 10,000 to 20,000 points per night for award stays.

Last-minute booking

This was an unplanned stay as I had initially booked a stay at Element Kuala Lumpur to find out why the hotel is priced so high, for a non-luxury brand.

However, I decided to cancel that booking as I found out during check-in that the hotel does not offer any additional benefits like complimentary breakfast and room upgrade for Platinum and above.

This is in line with the benefits that the hotel loyalty program has laid out for the Element brand but it is strange for a property in this region to follow these rules word-for-word. I had fantastic stays at other Element properties in Bali and Dubai!

As the Element KL required the same amount of points, it makes so much more sense to stay in the Sheraton Imperial instead (or other amazing Marriott hotels in KL), as I would get to enjoy the Club Lounge and Breakfast, even though there were no larger rooms available for an upgrade!

Location

The hotel is located in central Kuala Lumpur near sister property, Hotel Stripes. There is a large mall located across the road from the hotel but I found it quite underwhelming with low-quality stores.

  • 2 mins walk to Medan Tuanku monorail station
  • 5 mins walk to Quill City Mall
  • 10 mins drive to KL Sentral train station
  • 10 mins drive to Petronas Twin Towers
  • 1 hr drive to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL)

Arrival

Upon arrival, we were assisted with our luggages before being directed to the club lounge for check-in.

As mentioned above, this was a last-minute booking and there was no larger room available for an upgrade. However, I was assigned a room on a higher floor.

King Room

Room 3507 is 42sqm (452sqft) in size.

The base room, which was renovated in 2018, looks fresh and modern. In fact, it is more spacious than I had anticipated.

It is also nice to see a large bath tub in this room category. However, there was no coffee machine in the room, just a boiler and cheap instant coffee packets. In my opinion, hotels need to provide a coffee machine in the room before calling themselves “5 star”.

Club Lounge

Platinum members and above have access to the Club Lounge all day, with Afternoon Tea and Evening Cocktail being served from 2.30pm to 4.30pm and 5.30pm to 7.30pm respectively.

F&B options at the club lounge were good during my stay.

Breakfast

Breakfast is complimentary for Platinum members and above. It was held as a buffet at Essence restaurant.

The buffet was pretty extensive and food quality was good. Guests can get made-to-order noodles, roti canai and eggs.

Bottom line

This is yet another solid Marriott Bonvoy property in Kuala Lumpur with large rooms and a good club lounge.

With this stay, I have achieved the 75 Elite nights required to renew my Titanium Elite status for another year and receive a 40k-point free night certificate.
