How to fly in Oman Air Apex Suite Business Class
Oman Air Apex Suites Business Class can be found on all of the airline’s wide-body aircrafts, namely the Airbus A330s and Boeing 787s.
Travellers can redeem miles/points to fly in Oman Air Business Class, which is also known as Apex Suite.
Air Canada Aeroplan
Miles from Air Canada Aeroplan, which can be purchased or earned through flying, can also be redeemed at reasonable rates! For flights from Muscat to SouthEast Asia, it will cost 60k Aeroplan miles + ~US$64.
Etihad Guest
If you are based in Singapore, you can also redeem miles from Etihad Guest, that can be transferred from Citibank credit cards. However, shortly after my flight, Etihad severely devalued their award chart and it will now cost 80k Etihad miles + ~US$310 for Business Class flights between Muscat and SouthEast Asia.
How to find Oman Air award space
I found that the easiest way to search for Oman Air award availability is on Air Canada Aeroplan’s website. There is no calendar view on the website but award availability shown here seem accurate.
When you see availability on Air Canada, replicate the search on your preferred frequent flyer program (e.g. Etihad Guest) to complete the booking.
Pre-flight
Prior to take-off, I was offered a beverage of choice and a hot towel. A flight attendant also asked for my meal preference at this time.
Oman Air Apex Suite Business Class
The Apex Suite seats are laid out in a 2-2-2 configuration and can be transformed into fully-flat beds. Because of the ingenious design of Apex Suites, all seats have direct aisle access!
Like Japan Airlines’ Apex Suites, this seat is all space with minimal storage space within reach. As a light traveller, I am a huge fan of this seat type because of the fantastic legroom and privacy.
Additional note: The space in the bulkhead seats in the Airbus A330-200 and Boeing 787-8 aircrafts are a compromised by the curvature of the aircraft. I made a mistake of selecting one of those seats and you can see what I mean from the photos below.
Other airlines featuring Apex Suites in Business Class include Japan Airlines and Korean Air. Comparing to Japan Airlines’ Apex Suites, Oman Air’s itineration of the seat does not have a small storage area behind the head rest.
Bed mode
Aside from the pretty table cloth, I also loved the colours and softness of Oman Air’s beddings, as compared to those from other airlines! The airline certainly knows their textiles.
Amenities
Passengers on this 6-hour flight do not get any amenity kits but receive pyjamas, if it is an overnight flight, and other standard amenities like headphones, eye shades and ear plugs.
Dining
Compared with what other airlines are serving in Business Class, food quality and presentation onboard Oman Air Business Class is very good.
It’s a small detail but I appreciate the wrinkle-free and silky table cloth used! I’ve never seen a table cloth laid out so neatly, even in First Class!
Airport lounge access
Flying in Oman Air Business Class from Muscat gets you entry into Oman Air Business Class Lounge, a beautiful airport lounge which includes good F&B options and even private sleeping rooms.
My ratings
This is how I am rating my Business Class experience (vs other airlines):
Seat | 9/10 |
Bed | 10/10 |
Dining | 9/10 |
Privacy | 9/10 |
Storage | 3/10 |
Service | 9/10 |
Cleanliness | 10/10 |
Bottom line
The Apex Suite provides an excellent amount of legroom and privacy for passengers travelling in Business Class, at the expense of accessible storage compartments; perfect for light travellers like me!
