What benefits to expect when you stay at Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur, Autograph Collection as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium or Platinum Elite member?

The hotel opened in 2017 with a total of 184 rooms.

You will typically need 10,000 to 15,000 points per night for award stays.

I stayed in this hotel many times before starting Suitesmile in 2019 because it was really easy to find better rates elsewhere for a Best Rate Guarantee (BRG) claim. It was nice to be back with another BRG rate!

Location

The hotel is located in central Kuala Lumpur and you can get around easily by car or monorail.

  • 8 mins walk to Medan Tuanku Monorail station
  • 10 mins walk to Quill City Mall
  • 8 mins drive to Petronas Twin Towers
  • 50 mins drive to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL)

The building

I don’t usually talk about the hotel’s buildings in my reviews but this one is worth noting.

To reflect the area’s cultural history, the building it covered in bricks for the most part, other than some small window openings.

Personally, natural light is an important factor in my hotel and airport lounge stays and unfortunately, unless if you get lucky with the room assignment, you may end up with a view of layered bricks outside your window.

Arrival

I booked the base room and was upgraded to the Executive Studio 1 day prior to arrival, as a Titanium member recognition.

Executive Studio

Room 1915 is 45sqm / 484sqft in size.

I’ve always loved the modern furnishing of the rooms in this property and was also lucky to have one with a little window opening.

The sink is located outside the bathroom, which can be a little inconvenient for some.

I also never liked the work chair, which is uncomfortable, does not have arm rests and do not roll.

Evening Cocktail

Platinum members and above receive an Evening Cocktail benefit of complimentary snacks, wine, beer and soft drinks at Man Tao rooftop bar for 2 hours in the evening.

As the pictures show, there is nothing exciting about this benefit and it shouldn’t be the reason why you stay in this hotel.

Before the pandemic, this Club benefit was served in a small function room (with no view) and on some days, the only hot food offered was curry puffs.

Breakfast

Breakfast is complimentary for Platinum members and above. It was held as a buffet at the beautiful Brasserie 25 restaurant.

The buffet offers a fair variety of food and made-to-order eggs.

Other facilities

The swimming pool is located on the rooftop, next to Man Tao bar and it offers a good view of Menara Kuala Lumpur tower and the skyline.

Unfortunately, like most parts of the hotel, the view from the gym is blocked as well. What a pity.

Bottom line

The hotel has nice rooms, swimming pool, breakfast, upgrade policy and service. However, because of the lack of view and natural light, I would always prefer other great hotels in Kuala Lumpur at a similar price point; unless if I can get a BRG rate again!

  1. The nightly rate is USD86. But you paid USD75 + USD30 worth of points (5k points). That makes the value of the room USD105. I think it’s better if you paid for the nightly room, based on the USD value.

By the way, I stumbled upon your website for the Le Meridien PJ review. Great job reviewing these hotels, since majority of the review websites come from the US/Europe. It’s nice to have a SEA-based site where I can relate more. I’ve since bookmarked this website for my future reference.
