Award Space Alert: Great Business Class availability on Finnair between Singapore and Europe (May to Jul 2023)

Finnair has finally made Business Class award seats for flights between Singapore and Helsinki available for partner bookings!

P.S. I’ve shared this on Suitesmile Chat earlier today, for group members to have a little head start in getting those seats on hotter dates like the June school holidays. Join the Telegram group for free, if you haven’t already!

Award availability

It seems like the airline had previously blocked these SIN-HEL award seats from its partners as just a few days ago, I could only see 1 or 2 seats available throughout the entire year!

At the moment, I am seeing very good Business Class availability on Finnair between Singapore and Helsinki from May to July 2023.

I am also seeing up to 3 seats available per flight.

How to find oneworld award availability

The easiest and quickest way to search for oneworld award availability is on American Airlines’ website, aa.com.

This is because, you will be able to set filters like “non-stop flights only”, “business/first class only” and no. of passengers, and have a lovely calendar view of the award availability.

Use aa.com only as a reference and ignore the miles indicated on the website.

When you see availability on aa.com, replicate the search on your preferred frequent flyer program (e.g. Asia Miles) to complete the booking.

How to book

Asia Miles

If you are based in Singapore, the best way to book Finnair Business Class is with the airline’s oneworld partner, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, which can be converted from all good credit cards in the country.

For flights between Singapore and Europe (via Finnair), it will cost just 70,000 miles + ~S$82 in taxes/fees. That’s about 32% less miles than what Singapore Airlines charges!

Make your award bookings with Asia Miles on cathaypacific.com.

For the flight from Europe into Singapore, taxes and fees will depend on the airport that you are flying from. Tip: Try not to fly from London to avoid hefty fees!

Remember: Finnair does not charge fuel surcharges on award bookings, even on partner programs!

Travellers can also fly in Finnair’s Business Class between Singapore and Europe for 60,000 Alaska miles with low taxes/fees.

Finnair Business Class seat

I flew in Finnair’s new Business Class last year and enjoyed the service onboard. The seat does not recline and was very comfortable in the sitting position. However, I found that it wasn’t as comfortable in bed mode because of the narrow foot well.

Check the seat map

Finnair looks to be flying aircrafts equipped with its new Business Class seats to/from Singapore.

To check if the flight is equipped with new or old seats, here’s what you can do:

  1. Search for a Business Class ticket on finnair.com
  2. Fill up random passenger details
  3. Select seats to view the seat map
  4. If you do not see seats 1A and 1F (see image below), you are looking at the new seat map (with the new Business Class seats)

Here’s how the old and new seat maps compare:

It is great to finally see Finnair’s Business Class award availability again for flights to/from Singapore. This is a great opportunity to redeem your Asia Miles. Act fast if you are planning to travel during the June school holidays!
