Members of Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan can find wide-open award availability for Japan Airlines Business Class between Singapore and Osaka.
Why is this a big deal?
As shared in my list of Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan sweet spots, members only require 25k miles and very low taxes/fees to fly one-way in Business Class on Japan Airlines between Singapore and Japan.
Here’s a quick comparison of how many miles other frequent flyer programs (FFP) require for the same route:
FFP | Miles | Taxes/ Fees |
---|---|---|
Mileage Plan | 25k | US$50 |
Krisflyer | 52k | US$43 |
Asia Miles | 61k | US$243 |

Japan Airlines Business Class experience
I have flown Japan Airlines Business Class a number of times and consider the overall experience as one of the best out there. Service and in-flight dining is always fantastic.
From the looks of it, the airline is only flying one aircraft configuration to/from Singapore and it is the one with the Sky Suite III business class seat in Boeing 787-9 aircrafts.

Japan Airlines Business Class award availability
Poor availability between Singapore and Tokyo
Like Turkish Airlines, Japan Airlines appears to have blocked most award availability between certain city pairings and Singapore-Tokyo is one of them.
As of today, there is zero availability until April 2023!
Fantastic availability between Singapore and Osaka/Sapporo
However, if you search for flights between Singapore and Osaka, award availability magically appears, even though all flights require a layover in Tokyo!
Additional note: Japan Airlines flies to/from 2 airports in Osaka, KIX and ITM. There seems to be better award availability for ITM!
Book for up to 7 pax per flight
Yes, you can even find Business Class award availability for up to 7 passengers per booking for just 25k miles each!
There are potentially more seats available but the online booking engine only allows members to book for up to 7 pax at a time. If you plan to travel with a larger party and do not want to make separate bookings, try calling Alaska’s hotline for assistance.
Bottom line
Business Class award availability to/from Singapore has been really scarce.
For that reason, having the opportunity to book Business Class seats to Japan for up to 7 passengers for just 25k miles each is quite a dream.
If you have been struggling to plan a high-value year-end trip with miles, you probably do not want to miss this.
Keep an eye on the news about Japan’s border re-opening that is supposedly happening in October 2022!
