How to book?
The easiest way to find this great fare is with the calendar view on Google Flights.
Once you have found your preferred travel dates, book directly on united.com. These great fares can only be booked through United, even if you want to fly on its Star Alliance partner, ANA.
If you are booking flights with United, the short flight between San Francisco and Los Angeles will be in Economy.
Pay special attention to the cabin class that you are booking for each segment as I noticed that some flights between Tokyo/Honolulu and the US cities are in Economy.
Mix and match your preferred airline and layovers
Depending on your tolerance of ultra-longhaul flights and airline/layover preference, it is possible to mix and match your flights.
For example, you can fly on ANA between Singapore and Tokyo and United from Tokyo to Los Angeles. A layover in Honolulu, Hawaii is also possible.
You can also include a long layover in Tokyo to explore the city in the day!
United’s Premium Economy seat
United’s Premium Economy cabin is located between the Business Class and Economy Class cabins and there are only 3 rows of seats, in a 2-3-2 configuration.
As mentioned above, seat selection is free.
ANA’s Premium Economy seat
ANA’s Premium Economy cabin is also located between the Business Class and Economy Class cabins, in a 2-3-2 configuration.
Where to credit?
These fares may book you into fare class ‘N’ or ‘R’ and they are very clearly shown on United’s search result page by clicking on “details”.
Fare class ‘R’ on United yields the best accrual of 100%, for a total of about 17,500 miles that can be credited to frequent flyer programs (FFPs) like Singapore Airlines Krisflyer, Turkish Miles&Smiles and Air Canada Aeroplan.
Fare class ‘R’ on ANA yields zero miles, while fare class ‘N’ on ANA has 70% accrual on most FFPs.
