Is this a good offer?

Hilton Honors usually rotates fairly between spend-based and fixed-points promotions. And unlike other hotel loyalty programs like World of Hyatt and Marriott Bonvoy, they run their global promotions back-to-back. 💯

Fixed-points promotions like these are more rewarding for cheaper stays and award nights costing 10,000 points or fewer.

With this offer, you and your partner can take turns to do daily check-ins at hotels to keep the costs way down, as described in the extreme example shared previously.

Let’s take a look at an example of how this can be achieved at Hilton Petaling Jaya in Malaysia:

  1. Book alternating 1-night stays with your partner. This hotel has a very consistent award rate of 10,000 points per night, even before the pandemic.
  2. Take turns to do daily check-in and out. In my experience, you do not have to physically move out of the room. You can usually just walk to the front desk daily to update the key cards. Some hotels were even able to extend our key cards for the whole stay and automatically process the check-ins and outs every day!
  3. During this promotion, you will have 2,500 points returned to your account after every “stay” (nett 7,500 points per night).
  4. If you are a Diamond member, you will receive 1,000 welcome points every stay. This will bring your nett nightly rate to just 6,500 points per night. If you have Hilton Gold status (which is easy to achieve), you can choose to receive complimentary breakfast or 1,000 points per stay.
  5. In 2022, Hilton members will receive 10,000 additional points upon reaching 30 nights and for every 10 additional nights after that. If you can accumulate that number of nights in that period, this can bring your nett nightly rate to just 5,500 points (worth US$27.50) per night!

That is a real bargain, for a hotel that has an Executive Lounge offering free daily breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktail for Diamond members!

Of course, you can play the same game at 5k hotels like Hilton Garden Inn Bali and stay for as little as 750 points per night (worth US$3.75).

And remember, you can buy Hilton points for the same price as my valuation all year round!

Bottom line

Play your cards right and this can be an incredible offer. It’s a pity that I will probably be moving out of HGI Bali in January to head back to Singapore. It is really tempting to call Hilton Petaling Jaya my home for the next few months though!
