Silverkris Lounge is located in Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport near gate 5 and Qantas lounge. The only way to access this lounge is by flying on Business or First class with Singapore Airlines or a partner airline or hold Elite status.

Upon arrival, I was brought to the First Class area of the lounge. First thing that you will notice is that there are no views from this lounge. It is just a dark basement room. The good thing, however, is that you are far away from the public and there are less noise and no announcements to disturb you.

The toilet and shower was closed for maintenance while I was there and I had to use the public toilet outside. I was told by one of the staff that it has been “closed for maintenance” for a few months!

I was given a menu with 6 dishes. The choices were pretty basic, nothing to shout about. I ordered the beef tenderloin with medium doneness and received it well done. At this stage, it felt like this lounge is trying too hard to be among the worst First Class lounges out there. I did like the buffet spread though.

Conclusion

It is very hard to fall in love with this lounge. When you are in a First Class lounge, you don’t expect annoyances that you get in third party lounges. It is totally unacceptable to have the toilet under maintenance for “months”. A staff came to hand me a feedback form during my time there. As I was busy with some work, I put it aside. Upon leaving, the staff asked if I have completed the form. When told that I will submit it on my own, she went on to tell me “not to forget” to submit it. A little forceful, no? It makes me wonder about the level of training that these ground staff (including the chef) go through before being placed in a First Class lounge of a 5-star airline. I will be getting in touch with Singapore Airlines and provide an update on their response if necessary.
