Great Deal: Round trip Singapore to Budapest in Lufthansa Premium Economy for $896

Lufthansa, Germany’s national carrier and a member of Star Alliance, is offering a really good deal for Premium Economy flights from Singapore to Budapest. We all know that while Premium Economy is categorized between Economy and Business Class, it is more of the former than the latter. While you are getting a slightly better Economy Class seat with a decent 38” pitch and 18” width, what makes this a very good deal is its price of $896 (which is cheaper than what Singapore Airlines offer in Economy Class) and also its 100% mileage accrual.

100% mileage accrual

You will be booked into fare class ‘N’ for the long legs between Singapore and Munich and fare class ‘Y’ for the 1-hour flights between Munich and Budapest. You will be getting 100% mileage accrual with plenty of Frequent Flyer Programs (FFPs) to choose from, including the recently enhanced Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, ANA Mileage Club and Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles. I personally will not consider crediting these flights to Singapore Airlines Krisflyer as I value miles from the FFPs mentioned above more but if you would like to, you will receive 100% accrual with Krisflyer too.

How many miles will I be getting?

With a total round trip distance of about 13,200 miles, you will get exactly that. As I currently value Cathay’s Asia Miles at $0.018 each, that is worth $237. That’s 26% of the ticket price! But read on further to receive even more miles.

Which credit card should I use?

I recommend using GrabPay Mastercard (if you have it) after topping up your GrabPay balance with Citibank Rewards Visa for 4 miles per dollar. If you do not have GrabPay Mastercard, you may also use DBS Woman’s World Mastercard for 4 miles per dollar. This gives you an additional 3,580 miles (worth $64).

Availability

There is wide availability from mid-January till 31 May 2020. You will not have much problem finding a suitable dates, even over Chinese New Year and Good Friday weekends.

Conclusion

This is a great opportunity to explore Eastern Europe. For the price of Economy Class, you are getting better seats, better food and 16,780 miles (worth $302)! If you are heading to Budapest for Euro 2020 like me, it is worth considering heading a little earlier (in late May) to take advantage of this deal.
