What benefits to expect when you stay at Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta as a GHA Discovery Titanium member?

Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta opened in 1962 as Hotel Indonesia and adopted the Kempinski branding in 2009, after major renovation works.

It has a total of 289 rooms.

Location

Like Grand Hyatt Jakarta, this hotel is located in central Jakarta, next to the iconic Bundaran roundabout on Jalan M.H. Thamrin. It is also directly connected to Grand Indonesia mall.

• 40 mins drive to Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport (HLP)
• 45 mins drive to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK)

Arrival

Upon arrival, we were assisted with our luggages before being directed to the reception.

About a week prior to the stay, I got in touch with the Lady in Red to inform them that I am making the payment using D$ (that I earned from Local Experiences in the previous program).

Titanium members receive 2-category room upgrades upon availability. However, I tried my luck by requesting for a 3-category upgrade to the Salon Suite and my wish was kindly granted by the Lady in Red!

I was especially thankful for the upgrade as I later found out that the hotel was fully booked on that day (Friday).

Pro tip: You can get GHA Discovery Titanium status from as little as 3 nights!

Salon Suite

Room 646 is 85sqm / 915sqft in size.

Old hotels tend to have a certain yucky smell in the rooms but thankfully, this room did not have it! Furnitures looked to be very well-maintained.

As the hotel is located right next to the busy Bundaran HI, occasional sirens and honks could be heard all day and night. The noise was suppressed by the thick windows of the hotel but it can be bothersome for some guests.

Internet speed

WiFi speed was great throughout my stay.

Breakfast

Breakfast was held as a buffet at Signatures restaurant. Food quality and variety was very good for a hotel at this price point.

Unlike some hotel loyalty programs, GHA Discovery‘s top-tier members (Titanium) are not entitled to complimentary breakfast at member hotels. Be sure to book a rate that includes breakfast or access to the executive lounge, if you want to have it in the hotel.

Like breakfast, GHA Discovery‘s top-tier members (Titanium) are not entitled to complimentary lounge access at member hotels. Only guests who stay in Executive rooms or Suites have access to the executive lounge.

Bottom line

Other than the slight noise issue, I enjoyed my stay in this legendary hotel built in the 1960s. Although the hotel was fully-occupied, my GHA Titanium benefits were well-recognised and I was even granted a 4pm late checkout.

If you are still wondering where you should spend your Discovery Dollars earned from the previous program, this hotel should be strongly considered, if rates remain around US$150/night.
