What is my qualifying period?
Depending on your account opening date, your qualifying period will be between 1 to 2 months long. Please refer to the table below.
Is this a good offer?
This is a fantastic offer! Since the beginning of last year, HSBC has doubled the cash reward for new and existing cardholders and lowered the minimum spending requirement by about 38%.
Even if you already have a HSBC credit card, signing up for another one gives you a lovely 12% cashback on $500 spend!
Are these good cards to keep?
HSBC Revolution offers 4 miles per dollar (MPD) on most contactless and online transactions. This card is now a must-have for all serious mile chasers out there.
I wrote an article about how this card is the best if you prefer to use only 1 credit card for ALL your spending.
Reminder: This card does not have annual fee to worry about!
Where can I spend $500?
Types of transactions that will qualify are:
-
Dining, online/offline shopping, groceries, petrol.
Types of transactions that will not qualify are:
-
Bill payments, government agencies, insurance, e-wallet top-ups.
Read the terms and conditions to view the full list of excluded transactions.
Pro tip: If you do not have $500 worth of purchases to make in the coming months, your best option will be to purchase vouchers from NTUC Fairprice. These vouchers can be used for groceries in future. 😉
How to take advantage of this offer as an existing HSBC cardholder
As mentioned above, applying for another card and getting $60 from $500 of spend is equivalent to a generous 12% cashback! If you do not have $500 to spend in the coming weeks, use the NTUC Fairprice method described above, instead of buying something that you don’t need.
