Deal: 10 MPD on hotel bookings with DBS cards through Agoda

From now till 31 December 2020, DBS is offering a lovely earn rate of 10 miles per dollar (MPD) on hotel bookings made through its dedicated page on Agoda.

Here are the important points to note:

  1. Only bookings made through dedicated DBS-Agoda page will qualify.

  2. Payments must be made through Agoda. Not at the hotel. Only room types labelled “Promo Eligible” will qualify (screenshot below).

  3. Only 4 DBS credit cards qualify. They are DBS Altitude Visa, DBS Altitude AMEX, DBS Woman’s Card and DBS Woman’s World.

  4. You will earn 10 MPD only on the first $5,000 spending on both Altitude cards, first $1,000 on Woman’s Card and first $2,000 on Woman’s World.

Booking through dedicated page

Booking through special landing pages with “better earn rates” sometimes mean that you will pay more than usual. This is the case for Kaligo, Rocketmiles and UOB Travel. However, DBS-Agoda’s dedicated landing page seems to show the same prices as Agoda’s public page.

An easy way to know if a room type is eligible for this promotion is just to simply look for the yellow box labelled “Promo Eligible” (screenshot below). Room types that allow you to “pay at the hotel” will not have this label.

Eligible cards

These are the 4 cards that are eligible for this offer. All of them do not require any minimum spending but note the maximum spend that gets you 10 MPD.

If you are confused about which cards to get, I recommend only the Altitude Visa (because Visa is more widely accepted by merchants) and the Woman’s World (because men can have it too and its annual income requirement is not strict).

Earn rate for overseas hotels

You will receive 10 MPD only for local (Singapore) hotels. Overseas properties will earn you between 6 – 8 MPD.

When will you receive the bonus miles?

You will receive them by the end of February 2021.

Conclusion

If we saw this during non-COVID periods, it would be a fantastic deal. But that is not the case now. You can’t even be sure when you will be able to use these miles again.

You will be presented with plenty of hotel deals in the coming months as the hospitality industry slowly opens up. They will come in the form of vouchers, higher earn rates, complimentary breakfasts or F&B credits. A lot of these “deals” will be made to look better than what they actually are.

Once we have a longer list of approved hotels for staycations, I will be sharing a dedicated page of only noteworthy hotel deals. Look out for that!
