It’s not everyday that you get a chance to book a deal so good that it looks like an error fare. Wait, is it an error fare? I can’t even tell, to be honest. While $778 one-way in Saudia’s Business Class sounds like an amazing deal, you can book round trip from Athens to Singapore for just $364 more ($1,143 total). Before you dismiss this amazing deal, there are easy ways to take advantage of it even if you are based in Singapore.

What you should know

  1. Saudia is a 4-star airline on Skytrax, along with big names like Emirates, British Airways and Qantas.

  2. All flights will have a layover in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

  4. 1-2-1 reverse herringbone seat configuration in Business Class cabin.

  5. Jeddah-Singapore is serviced by the new Boeing 787.

Possible scenarios to take advantage of this deal

Europe-based travellers are blessed with amazing flight deals into Asia all the time. But it is hardly as good as this one. How can you take advantage of this deal if you are based in Singapore? Well firstly, you have to be in Athens, Greece. Please refer to our article on how to find good flight deals as I will not get into details here.

Scenario 1: Pay for one-way Economy flight into Europe
The absolute cheapest way into Europe is via Scoot from Singapore to Athens at $294. But why not add $126 more for a full-service airline? It costs $420 for a one-way flight from Singapore to London on Qantas. You can get really cheap flights from major cities in Europe to Athens. For example, it only costs $78 (with luggage) to go from London to Athens.

Total damage: $420 + $78 + $778 = $1,276.

Scenario 2: Redeem miles for one-way flight into Europe
If you took advantage of the recent Spontaneous Escapes deal, you could fly into Istanbul for only 17,500 miles on Economy or 25,900 miles on Premium Economy. Any of those redemptions would have cost you $49.80 in taxes and fees. You can easily find tickets connecting Istanbul to Athens for as low as $53.

Total damage: $49.80 + $53 + $778 = $880.80.

Lounge access in Jeddah

As a Business Class passenger, you will have access to Saudia Alfursan Golden Lounge in Jeddah for complimentary food and drinks (non-alcoholic).

How to book?

I recommend using DBS Altitude for 6 miles per dollar on this booking. Booking has to be made on Altitude’s dedicated page on Expedia. You will receive 4,668 miles (worth $84) if you are booking the one-way flight. You will be booked into fare class ‘I’, yielding 9,025 miles on KLM’s Flying Blue or 6,017 miles on Delta’s SkyMiles. Non of which are great Frequent Flyer Programs to me.

Conclusion

If I didn’t have travel plans in the coming months, I would have taken advantage of this deal (or error fare?). If you are considering a Eurotrip in spring 2020, this is really a no-brainer. I’ll promise you that you will not find a better deal to fly in a solid Business Class product for 9 hours.
