No Devaluation: Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan released “simplified” award charts

Alaska Airlines announced a couple of months ago that Partner Award “changes” are coming soon. It looks like there has not been any award chart devaluation, for now.

Simplified award charts to/from/within North America

There are now simplified award charts for travel to/from North America featuring “starting from” award rates, and no award charts for travel between other regions.

Best ways to redeem Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles

Because of the low mileage requirement and lack of fuel surcharges, Alaska miles are fantastic for Economy, Business and First Class award redemptions for certain routes, on certain airlines.

What am I doing with my Alaska miles?

I had cleared out most of my Alaska miles on a number of sweet spot routes in the past few weeks (for travel in 2023) and will probably continue to keep those bookings.

Bottom line

It was a false alarm after all.

This non-devaluation news does not mean that a devaluation will not come in the not-too-distant future. In fact, because of the amazing sweet spots, I’ll be very surprised not to see a devaluation in 2023.

Alaska had also mentioned previously that they will allow members a 3-month notice before any devaluation.
