A Suitesmile Chat member shared a possible error fare earlier this morning for Business Class Qatar Airways flights between Bali and USA.

With this deal, you can book one-way or roundtrip flights in Business Class from Denpasar, Bali to some US cities from November 2022 to September 2023.
One-way: US$662 (~S$939)
Roundtrip: US$1,357 (~S$1,920)
This fare can be found for flights from Denpasar, Bali to the following US cities:
- Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
- Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
- Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
- Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- New York’s John F. Kennedy international Airport (JFK)
- Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
- Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
How to book
Fares are bookable on expedia.com (not expedia.com.sg).
To earn more miles, it is highly recommended to book non-codeshare flights for the DPS-DOH segments (see below).
Qatar Airways Business Class experience
Because of its seats, service, food and airport lounge, Qatar Airways offers one of the best Business Class experience in the world, if not the best.
Aim for one of the Qsuite-equipped aircrafts, if possible. You may check if a Qatar Airways flight includes Qsuites by searching for the exact same flight on qatarairways.com.
At the time of writing, I do not see any Qsuite-equipped flights between Denpasar and Doha. However, I saw Qsuite flights available between Doha and Miami, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia.
Of course, there is always a chance of an aircraft-swap, which can put you in a different seat type.
Where to credit?
With this fare, you will be booked into fare class ‘C’.
However, because of the codeshare flights, calculations for mileage accrual are not straight-forward.
Between Bali and Doha
There are many non-codeshare flights between Bali and Doha and you should try to book those, to receive more miles.
The easiest way to look for the flights to avoid, is by looking for the word “and” in the search results…
…and making sure that you book flights with a 3-digit Qatar Airways flight number for the DPS-DOH segments in the itinerary page.
With these non-codeshare Qatar Airways flights, you can earn the following amount of miles for DPS-DOH and DOH-DPS flights:
- Qatar Airways Privilege Club: ~19,500 miles (200% accrual)
- Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan: ~21,800 miles (225% accrual)
- American Airlines AAdvantage: ~24,200 miles (250% accrual)
For Singapore-based travellers, Privilege Club seems to be the safer/better option for a number of reasons:
- Miles and points from Citibank Singapore credit cards can be transferred to Privilege Club, making it easy to top up any differences for a future award booking
- You will earn 104 Qpoints with these flights, which can help you (re)qualify for a Qatar Airways/oneworld Elite status (Silver: 150, Gold: 300)
- Alaska Airlines has recently announced a possible devaluation to its partner award charts
Between Doha and US
Unfortunately, all flights between Doha and US are Jetblue codeshare flights and it is not possible to earn miles for these segments.

Bottom line
While these are not must-get fares, they seem to be an error fare that is only bookable with specific conditions and on certain websites.
It is also a nice bonus to receive over 27,000 miles by crediting to the right frequent flyer program and using the right cards for your booking.
Remember that you can also book one-way flights for half the cost and redeem miles (perhaps Alaska) for an award flight for the other direction.
As with all error fares, it is advisable to delay your travel plans for a week or two, in case the airline or Expedia decides not to honour the fare.
