Key points to note
- As Oman Air does not fly to/from Phuket, there will be 2 stops for each travel direction; one in Bangkok, another one in Muscat.
- Flight between Phuket and Bangkok (1 hr 30 mins) will be in Economy Class on Bangkok Airways.
- Flights between Bangkok and Istanbul (via Muscat) will be in Business Class on Oman Air.
- Fares are only bookable on certain Online Travel Agencies (OTA).
- Fares can be found from August 2022 to June 2023 with wide-open availability.
Is Oman Air Business Class good?
I have not flown it personally, but Oman Air Business Class on its Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircrafts are very popular among travellers as they feature the Apex suites!
How to book this deal
As mentioned above, I was not able to replicate this fare on official airline websites and could only find them on certain OTAs like Expedia and Gotogate.
I don’t know about you, but I feel more comfortable sending my money to the more reputable, Expedia.
I was able to find these fares on Google Flights but had trouble replicating them in Expedia. As there is wide-open availability, it is not too difficult to play around with travel dates on Expedia!
Choose better seats
As shared above, aim to fly on Oman Air Boeing 787 aircrafts as they feature the Apex suites.
The 6-hour flights between Bangkok and Muscat are all in Boeing 787s but the 5-hour flights between Muscat and Istanbul feature the narrow body Boeing 737MAX 8 on some days.
You may also want to select a window seat for better privacy.
Where to credit?
The Oman Air flights book into fare class ‘R’, while the Bangkok Airways flights book into fare class ‘Y’.
If you are based in Singapore, I recommend crediting them to Etihad Guest to receive about 15,600 Etihad miles (worth US$218) for the entire trip!
Etihad Guest is a transfer partner of Citibank Singapore. This means that you can top up on the miles earned on this trip, for a future redemption.
Etihad’s miles are great for the following Business Class redemptions:
- Seoul to Prague in Czech Airlines for 25,610 miles
- Muscat to Bangkok in Oman Air for 34,000 miles
- Casablanca to New York in Royal Air Maroc for 44,000 miles
- Japan to Europe in ANA for 63,000 miles
