What benefits to expect when you stay at The Westin Surabaya as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium or Platinum Elite member?

The Westin Surabaya opened in 2020 with a total of 204 rooms. This property requires 15,000 to 20,000 points per night for award stays.

Location

The hotel is located in the West of Surabaya. Although it is away from the city-centre, there is a MASSIVE mall attached directly to the property!

This hotel is also directly connected to another Marriott Bonvoy property, Four Points Surabaya Pakuwon Indah.

Arrival

As I was staying at the Four Points property in the same building (read my review), I called to check if they could assist me with our luggages from my suite in that sister hotel directly to my suite in The Westin. And they said yes!

I used a Suite Night Award (SNA) for this stay and selected the Westin Grand Suite. The SNA was cleared about 2 days prior to arrival.

During check-in, I was shown the welcome letter explaining the Westin Club benefits that I get to enjoy during the stay.

I noticed that breakfast can be enjoyed at the Club Lounge and asked if I have the option of having it in the restaurant too. I was told that it was not possible. Strange restriction for a hotel in this region.

Room 3325 is 97sqm / 1,044sqft in size.

The suite is huge with modern furnishing and it offers a lovely panoramic view of the city.

The bathroom

The bathroom has beautiful marbled walls. However, it is oddly-shaped and is divided into 2 sections (see floor plan above). One area holds the shower and toilet and the other has bathtub and wash sinks. The shower area was pretty dark, even with the lights on.

I found it strange that the bath products are not what I am used to when staying in the Westin brand. Instead, I saw the same ones (from an unknown local brand) that I received during my Four Points stay. I then asked the staff if the White Tea (Heavenly Spa by Westin) bath products are available and they said that they would send them to me right away.

Very odd that the hotel tries to short-change guests on proper Westin bath products.

Evening cocktail / Hors d’oeuvres

Evening cocktail (alcoholic drinks) runs from 5pm to 8pm while hors d’oeuvres starts a little later at 6pm and ends at the same time.

Heavy, good-quality food is offered for hors d’oeuvres and I was told that different cuisines are offered each day. On the evening that I was there, the lounge was serving Indian food.

Breakfast

As mentioned earlier, complimentary breakfast for Platinum members and above can only be enjoyed at the lounge.

Food quality was great, although, I’d imagine a wider variety at the main restaurant.

Other facilities

As the hotel is directly attached to the “lower-end” sister property, Four Points Surabaya Pakuwon Indah, some facilities like swimming pools and gym are shared.

Bottom line

It was a great use of my Suite Night Award and a decent use of 15,000 Marriott points.

However, because of the shared facilities, same bath products, superior restaurant breakfast and room upgrade policy, Four Points Surabaya Pakuwon Indah on the lower floors of the building makes this hotel look a tiny bit stupid for charging 3x more.
