What to expect when you stay at Alila Villas Uluwatu as a World of Hyatt Globalist member?
Alila Villas Uluwatu opened in 2009 with a total of 65 villas. 56 of them are of the entry-level 1 Bedroom Pool Villa.
It is a Category 7 World of Hyatt property requiring 30,000 points (worth S$600) per night. A category 7 free night can be earned by staying 60 nights a year in World of Hyatt properties.
Location
The hotel is located in Uluwatu, on the Southern tip of Bali. There were no shops or restaurants within walking distance from the property.
- 15 mins drive to Uluwatu Temple
- 35 mins drive to Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)
- 1 hr 25 mins drive to Ubud Town
Arrival
Upon arrival, we had our temperatures taken and were assisted with our luggages before being directed to the reception.
I stayed here on my birthday and had booked the base 1 Bedroom Pool Villa. I knew before-hand that there is a limited number of 2 Bedroom Villas but requested for an upgrade anyway.
The 2 Bedroom Villa was still listed as ‘available’ on my Hyatt app during check-in but I was not offered the upgrade. Guess we can now put this one to bed! It is pretty much impossible to get upgraded here as a Globalist member, even if you are celebrating a special occasion on a day with extremely low occupancy.
But that is not a bad thing at all as the entry-level villa was beautiful!
The villa (1 Bedroom Pool Villa)
Villa 407 is 279sqm / 3,000sqft in size. As mentioned above, this is the entry-level villa and as the numbers suggest, it is huge! It comes with a private pool too.
However, I wish that the villa had a better view of the ocean.
As there are 4 flight of stairs between my villa and the lobby, I called for a buggy every time I wanted to go to the restaurant, gym or main pool.
As mentioned above, I got in touch with the hotel a week earlier to let them know that I am celebrating a special occasion. They’ve included a birthday cake together with other welcome amenities!
Here’s a quick video tour posted on our Instagram page:
Best villas
Although a villa category upgrade is not possible at this property, you should request for one on the highest level, for a better view of the ocean. These are villas numbered 4xx.
Breakfast
Breakfast is complimentary for Globalist members and was served as à la carte buffet at CIRE restaurant from 7 to 11am. Food quality and the view from the cliff-side restaurant was fantastic!
Looking at the breakfast menu below, I honestly can’t believe the prices that I am seeing! You can get almost anything for US$6 or less. For that reason, it’s not really a big deal if you don’t have complimentary breakfast here.

Cliff Edge Spa Cabana
We did the Cliff Edge Spa Cabana package during the stay. The beautiful cabana was located on lower grounds and offers a spectacular view of the ocean.
No music was played during the 2-hour session as nothing can beat the natural sound of the waves!
Here’s the spa menu:

Bottom line
This stay turned out to be a lot better than expected. I couldn’t get enough of the cliff-side view from the Sunset Cabana.
Given the lack of options that I had in Indonesia, this was a great Cat 7 free night award redemption and a nice way to spend my birthday!
Hyatt will be introducing peak and off-peak award chart later this year. This means that you would be able to redeem just 25,000 points (worth S$500) for some nights at this hotel.
I received 1 elite night credit and no points after this stay.
How abt the price for dinner?
Plan to spend my b’d next month as well:)
Hi Petee, I did not have my dinner there, unfortunately. Enjoy your birthday stay! 🙂
