The Laguna, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Nusa Dua, Bali opened in 1991 with 287 guest rooms and was last renovated in 2006.

It is a Category 5 Marriott Bonvoy property requiring 30,000 to 40,000 points per night for award stays.

The lowest room category available to book a Marriott STARS rate is the Executive Suite.

Location

The hotel is located in Nusa Dua, a quiet area in south-eastern Bali. The long stretch of beach in this area is mostly connected to 5-star hotels like Ritz-Carlton, Sofitel, Hilton and Apurva Kempinski. It is less crowded (as compared to Seminyak beach) as it faces East (no sunset view). That’s not a bad thing as it is usually very quiet; perfect for evening walks/runs/cycles.

The hotel is located right next to The Westin Nusa Dua, Bali. I was staying at that hotel right before this stay, and both properties were able to communicate for my seamless transfer.

Arrival

The hotel offered a complimentary pick-up from the sister property next door and dropped us off at the separate lobby for guests staying in villas.

I had booked the Executive Suite and was upgraded to the 1 Bedroom Villa as a Titanium member.

The room (1 Bedroom Villa)

Villa 504 is 530sqm / 5703sqft in size. As the numbers suggests, it is massive! The high ceiling added to the grand ‘feel’ of the villa. Furnishing in the villa was great and there wasn’t any visible wear and tear despite its age.

The private pool was larger than average.

In-room dining

Unlike most other Marriott Bonvoy properties, this hotel offers 20% discount for in-room dining as well. And I could use the US$100 credit to cover my expenditure after the discount has been applied.

Although there is an In-Room Dining menu, I was allowed to place orders from Arwana restaurant’s dining menu.

Breakfast

Breakfast is complimentary for Platinum members and above, and also guests who booked the Marriott STARS rate. It is held at Arwana restaurant from 7 to 11am. Villa guests can request for a buggy to go to the restaurant.

I asked if breakfast could be had in the room and they said yes!

Breakfast was ordered from Arwana restaurant’s à la carte breakfast menu. Food quality was very good.

Other facilities

The villa area is located near the road entrance of the resort and is about 7 minutes’ walk away from the beach. Here’s what you will see when you take that walk.

Bottom line

Like The Westin next door, I was reluctant to stay in this property because of its age. I can’t speak for the condition of the guest rooms or suites, but the villa was very well-maintained!

The Marriott STARS resort credit and generous upgrade made my stay feel like a complete steal.

I am loving the Nusa Dua area because of the peaceful and clean beach.
