Sthala, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Ubud Bali opened in 2016 with 141 rooms. It is a Category 3 Marriott Bonvoy property requiring 15,000 to 20,000 points per night for award stays.

I’ve stayed in this hotel in 2018 and really liked it. I decided to return as the nightly rate was very low right now. It’s also a good opportunity to write this review!

Location

The hotel is located in southern Ubud. There were no shops opened within walking distance of the hotel when I was there. There were 2 ATMs located just outside the hotel, next to the security post.

  • 15 mins drive to Ubud Town

  • 45 mins drive to Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)

Arrival

Upon arrival, we had our temperatures taken and were assisted with our luggages before being directed to the reception.

I had booked the base Deluxe room and was given the same room type at the far corner of the 6th floor (two below the top floor) as a Titanium member. The hotel also very kindly offered to upgrade me to Jungle Suite (only 2 in the hotel) for 5 of my 14 nights!

The room (Deluxe Room)

Room 631 is 36sqm / 387sqft in size.

View from the room was great. I could see the panorama pool as well as the river from the balcony. The higher floors offer very good privacy too.

The room had a proper work desk and the hotel also provided an office chair upon request!

The room (Jungle Suite)

Room 330 is 72sqm / 775sqft in size.

The suite was as beautiful as I remembered. Although, I wish that it was located on a higher floor as guests at the swimming pool could look directly into the room.

I also wished that the suite had a work desk. It wasn’t comfortable working at the kitchen table.

The microwave oven could come in handy for some.

The television was very small, considering its distance from the bed.

Best rooms

I usually request for a room on the highest floor possible and it must not be a connecting room (for less noise).

I did not stay on the highest floor throughout this stay and experienced noise from the room above me every day from guests and housekeeping. It may just be the built quality of the building. For better peace and quiet, I would request for the highest floor for future stays, even if it’s not located at the corner.

Breakfast

Breakfast is complimentary for Platinum members and above and was served as à la carte and assisted buffet at Sungai restaurant from 6.30 to 1030am.

I had the option of having breakfast sent to my room and went for it throughout my stay. Food quality was very good and delivery was always on time.

Other facilities

There are 2 swimming pools. The popular one is called Panorama Pool and it’s overlooking the river. The other pool, called Matahari pool, is usually quieter.

The gym is located on the lowest floor. It is large but lacking in equipment.

There is a small kids room near the gym.

Because of low occupancy, Naga rooftop bar was only opened on Saturdays.

Bottom line

I enjoyed my stay as much as I did 3 years ago. Can’t get enough of that river view and afternoon walks by the river.
