Great Deal: 120k points for 5 nights in an Overwater Villa at Le Meridien Maldives

Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa is a brand new, Category 5 Marriott Bonvoy property that is slated to open in September 2021. I shared this deal via Suitesmile’s Instagram story a few weeks ago for stays in September 2021 but it’s great to now find availability a further 8 months ahead!

What’s the deal?

You can book off-peak nights in an overwater villa at Le Méridien Maldives with only 30,000 Marriott points per night (worth S$270) for a stay from 9 to 14 May 2022.

However, the real deal here is booking 5 straight nights from 9 to 14 May 2022 to receive the 5th night free benefit. You will require 120,000 points for 5 nights, or an average of only 24,000 points per night (worth S$216).

There is an unavoidable roundtrip seaplane transfer fee of US$420 per person, per stay and US$6 per person, per night of taxes. No prepayment is required for these fees.

Why is it a great deal?

  1. Unlike most other resorts in the Maldives, this new resort has overwater villas that can be booked at the lowest possible rate, without needing any upgrade fee or status.

  2. The available dates are almost 12 months ahead! Of course, we do not know if Singaporeans can travel to the Maldives without any quarantine upon returning, even as far ahead as May 2022. The good news is Singapore is expected to complete its vaccination program by the end of the year.

  3. It’s not often that you get to see 5 consecutive off-peak nights in the Maldives.

  4. Booking with points at this property offers free cancellation up till 14 days prior to the stay. No prepayment is required for the seaplane transfers too. In other words, this is a risk-free booking!

  5. At just 24k points per night (worth S$216), it is so much lower than the typical cash rate of S$900 nett per night at this property.

  6. If you have a 40k free night certificate from qualifying as a Titanium member this year, you can redeem it for an extra night!

How to book?

  1. Make sure that you have at least 120,000 Marriott points in your account.

  2. Search for desired dates on marriott.com or your Marriott Bonvoy mobile app. (e.g. 9 to 14 May 2022)

  3. Enter your credit card information and confirm the reservation.

I’m not sure how long these rates will be up, act fast to avoid disappointment!

Remember to cancel the reservation at least 14 days before the stay if you are not able to travel.

Bottom line

Let’s be real, the Maldives is a place to burn money. You don’t get opportunities to make high value redemptions like these very often.

However, even with this deal, you will still spend a lot of money on the seaplane transfer. On top of that, you will not have a choice but to dine in the hotel and pay whatever insane prices that will be on the restaurant’s menu.

While you decide on that, there is no harm making this risk-free, speculative booking and being a little optimistic on a vacation in the Maldives a year from now. 🤞

P.S. I will be adding this property to Suitesmile’s list of Marriott Bonvoy award sweet spots.
