Hyatt Place Dubai Wasl District opened in early 2019 and is one of 4 Hyatt Place properties in Dubai, UAE. This is also the only Hyatt Place in UAE that is in Category 2, requiring 8,000 points/night for award bookings. That’s the same category as Hyatt Regency Dubai and the gorgeous Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi!

This was my first stay in a Hyatt property as I aim to achieve Hyatt Globalist status by Feb 2021. I am comparing the quality of this hotel against my experience with Four Points and Hilton Garden Inns.

Location

The hotel is located in Deira, within close proximity of 2 other Hyatt Place properties. There is a large mall, Al Ghurair Centre, diagonally across the street from this hotel. Union metro station is about 8 minutes’ walk away.

Arrival

It’s been years since I’ve stayed in a chain hotel as a normal member, hence, I did not expect any member recognition. I was pleasantly surprised when the receptionist thanked me for being a member of World of Hyatt. Good start!

I had to make the full payment for my stay during check-in. The total cost was AED 299.72 but the receptionist rounded it up to charge AED 300 to my card. It didn’t bother me enough to ask about it but I just found that strange.

The corridor to the room looked very premium for the Hyatt Place brand.

The room

Room 1010 looked very premium as well. The television is positioned at an awkward angle from the bed but it does swivel out.

The chair at the work desk does not have wheels at the bottom and there weren’t any arm rests. It’s hard to beat Hilton Garden Inns’ ergonomic chairs at this price point.

Best rooms

In general, I always ask for a room on the highest floor possible and it must not be a connecting room (less noise).

I made a rookie mistake of not requesting for a non-connecting room this time. Thankfully, there weren’t much noise from the room next door.

UPDATE 22 Jan 2021: I have stayed in a room facing the mall/main road. The noise level in the outer-facing rooms is MUCH higher, even though I was on the 11th floor. Do also note that there is a mosque beside the hotel with prayer calls 5 times a day. This can be heard very loudly if you are staying in a room facing the mall/main road.

I would trade the lack of view for more quiet the next time I stay here and choose an inner-facing room like the one reviewed in this page.

Breakfast/Dinner

Breakfast was served as assisted buffet at Focus Restaurant from 6.30am till 10.30am. It was pretty crowded when I was there at 10am but the staff managed it well.

Hot food like omelettes and paratha were available but only black coffee with/without milk and sugar was available. No cappuccino or latte.

I booked a room that included a Dinner package as that was the only rate that I could BRG against. To be very kind, dinner wasn’t great. There were very limited options and I would have abandoned it if not for the grilled fish.

Aside from the cake and fruit cocktail, other desserts looked (and tasted) like the same thing with different food colouring.

Bottom line

Without the dinner package, I saw room rates of just AED 216 nett inclusive of breakfast. This would be great value for my Globalist run next month, considering the good hardware and distance to a large mall.
