Arrival

At the time of writing, I have stayed in 13 properties since the start of the pandemic and this was the only hotel that took the extra effort to sanitize my luggages, on top of the usual contact-tracing measures and temperature checks. Double thumbs up!

As a Titanium member, I was assigned a corner room on one of the higher floors. As there are only 2 suites in this hotel, it’s pretty much impossible to get a suite upgrade especially with a 4-night stay. So, I was contented to be staying on the 28th floor, in the Urban room, facing Hilton Kuala Lumpur. I was also offered complimentary mini bar and breakfast.

The room

I was given room 2809, two floors down from the rooftop. The room looked very simple but had everything that mattered most to me. Plenty of space, decent view out the window, large bathroom and most importantly, a work desk.

To my pleasant surprise, there was also a handwritten letter and some welcome snacks from the General Manager, Mr Rubel Miah. This was already exceeding my expectations of an Aloft brand.

Breakfast

Breakfast is served at W XYZ restaurant on the ground floor but I could also have it in my room during this pandemic. During this 4-night stay, I had breakfast at the restaurant once and in my room the other 3 times.

There were 5 types of breakfast sets to choose from and I usually place my breakfast order the night prior. When dining in-room, my food and drinks always came cling-wrapped. I must say that the quantity, quantity, hygiene, presentation and punctuality exceeded my expectations too.

Lunch/Dinner

I had lunch at W XYZ one of those days by making a reservation on Eatigo. There was a 50% discount for the time that I preferred. Consider using the Eatigo app for other dining options in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and other cities for a 10 – 50% discount on your food items.

The pool

The pool is located on the 30th floor, which is also the rooftop. Before the pandemic, when the bar (Mai Bar) was still opened, this must have been a really nice place to hang out. The pool and the bar was closed while I was there in Nov 2020.

The gym

The gym, located on level 4, is very bright and airy. There are also towels and complimentary bottles of water.

Bottom line

I truly enjoyed my stay here. It really shows when a property is managed by people who truly care about their guests. Outstanding value if you are staying on sub-200 nightly rates. I had to rent a SoCar for a drive-thru COVID-19 swab test and there was one right beside the building. Having the Rapid KL train conveniently located right beside the hotel also means that you can get to Kuala Lumpur International Airport in the fastest way possible.
