Can’t believe it’s been 7 months since I last wrote a hotel review! Feels good to get out again.
Sheraton Petaling Jaya opened its doors in 2017 and is one of the tallest buildings in the area, towering way above Hilton Petaling Jaya next door. You’ll have fantastic views from almost every room!
The lowest rate that I could find before the pandemic was around 370 MYR nett. I got a lovely rate of 193 MYR (48% off) per night this time round. If you don’t already know, hotels in Malaysia are waiving GST and tourism tax indefinitely because of the pandemic. There are also hotels like this one that do not charge a 10% service fee!
There is nothing much around this hotel though. You’ll probably want to get a Grab car somewhere.
Arrival
Upon arrival, I got my temperature taken and checked in with the MySejahtera app before taking the lift up to the 3rd floor for the proper check-in. I booked the lowest category room (as usual) and was pre-upgraded to the 1-bedroom suite as a Titanium Marriott Bonvoy member. I was assigned a suite on the 10th floor (equivalent to the 30th floor of surrounding buildings) as the ones on the higher floors were already occupied.
The room
Room 1002 is located right at the end of the corridor on the 10th floor. The suite is very modern-looking, as expected from a new-ish hotel. There is a water boiler and 6 bottles of water on the counter near the door. There are the usual Dilmah tea bags and drip coffee but no coffee machine here, sadly. I was told by the housekeeper that only the Presidential Suite has one.
You can easily see the Petronas twin towers and Menara KL Tower on a clear day.
There is a toilet near the main door and another one in the huge bathroom that is connected to the bedroom.
Breakfast
Platinum members and above receive complimentary breakfast at Feast restaurant from 6.30am – 10.30am. Because of the pandemic, the breakfast experience is scaled down and is offered as an a la carte buffet. The food quality is good and I could also order fresh juices.
Executive lounge replacement
The Executive Lounge on the top floor is huge and offers amazing views of the Petaling Jaya area. It is one of my favourite hotel lounges in the world! I got permission from the hotel to enter the lounge to get some photos (below).
As it is currently closed because of the pandemic, Platinum members and above are offered evening aperitif at Link Cafe from 6pm – 8pm daily. Food can be ordered from the small menu and fresh juices and alcoholic drinks are complimentary as well.
As the boardroom for Elite members (located in the Executive Lounge) was also closed, I held my meetings in the other one at level 3C.
Gym
The gym is located on the top floor and offers some stunning views too. During this pandemic period, you will have to make a booking before entering the gym.
Rooftop bar and pool
While the swimming pool is fairly small, you won’t feel like getting out with a view like this! There is also a kids pool just outside the play room. Yes, this hotel is family friendly.
A little extra
The hotel knew beforehand that I am a returning customer and sent an afternoon high tea set to my room on my final day!
Conclusion
This hotel is special. It’s hard to say no to Hilton Petaling Jaya next door, where you can book 1 night for only 10,000 Hilton points. But if you are paying in cash and find this hotel costing just a little more than the Hilton. Choose this one! Can’t believe that I only spent an average of S$48 a night after my Citi Prestige rebates, even with an understandably scaled down experience because of the pandemic.
