Lowest nightly rate: 96 EUR (97 EUR after tax)
When to book: One month in advance (Winter)
Hilton Malta is the only property under the Hilton family in this island nation.
Arrival
I arrived late at night at around 10 p.m. There was a separate line for Hilton Gold and Diamond members and I didn’t have to wait to be checked in. As a Diamond member, I was pre-upgraded to the Junior Suite, which costs 4 times more than the basic King Room that I’ve booked!
The Suite (Room 549)
The size of the room is as expected for a junior suite. I really liked the blueish tones used in the hotel’s decor. This is consistent throughout the whole property and made me feel like I am in an oasis. As it was very late, I took a shower and went straight to bed. I set an alarm at 6 in the morning as I have checked beforehand that the property is facing East and I will be able to catch the sunrise over the Mediterranean Sea.
My jaw dropped as I stepped out to the balcony with a cup of coffee in my hand. I could finally see the size of the balcony in daylight and it was massive! Looking at the floor plan, it is actually bigger than the suite’s indoor area. The view of the sun rising over the horizon was magnificent too.

Location
The hotel is located in a quiet area in St. Julian. There are no complimentary shuttle services from the hotel to Valletta. That would have been a nice touch. If you take bus TD13 from the main bus stop about 5 minutes walk from the property, you will arrive in Valletta after a 15 minutes journey. You may buy tickets from the machine at the bus stop or from the bus driver. This costs 1.50 to 2 EUR depending on the season.
Executive Lounge
The Executive Lounge was very well decorated and offers a nice panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea. It opens from 0600 – 2200 hours. Afternoon tea is from 1500 – 1700 hours and evening aperitif is from 1800 – 2000 hours, when it gets pretty crowded. Food offered here are below average. Breakfast and evening buffet spreads are very basic. I would say that it is the only weakness of this hotel.

Breakfast
Diamond members are allowed to have breakfast at the Executive Lounge or at The Oceana Restaurant. I had my breakfast at the Executive Lounge once and was disappointed my the selection there. Unless if you really want to have some privacy or value the view more than the food, have your breakfast at the restaurant instead. Unlike some Hilton properties, there are no made-to-order eggs in the lounge.

Continental breakfast at the Executive Lounge
Breakfast was better at Oceana Restaurant but not by much. There was a live egg station but I was disappointed to see different types of sausages being offered as hot food. If it’s any consolation, the eggs were amazing! There was no Diamond member recognition for all 4 times that I was there even though there is a dedicated section of the restaurant for Diamond members. I checked with one of the staff on the last day that it is stated in the computer at the restaurant entrance but the staff “must have missed it”. On all four occasions? Hmm.

Conclusion
I really enjoyed my stay at Hilton Malta and just couldn’t get enough of the view from the humongous balcony. The staff are all very friendly, especially the ones at the Executive Lounge and the housekeepers who gave me unlimited bottles of drinking water. Although protein choices were limited at breakfast, the egg station stole the show and I enjoyed my daily omelette there. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here if I am in Malta again. With beautiful Spring weather just a couple of hours away from the Alps, there will always be reasons to come back!

thanks for the insight. We’re heading to this property on part of our #covidrevenge trip at the end of August. As a fellow Diamond member, I’m hoping my basic queen garden view room will be upgraded to a sea view for our 3 nights – a Jr. Suite would be beyond any hope.
