Review: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Bratislava (King One Bedroom Suite)

Lowest nightly rate: 66 EUR (69 EUR after tax)
When to book: One month in advance

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Bratislava opened its doors in 2011 and is the only Hilton property in this city.

Arrival

I arrived by train from Vienna to Bratislava Hlavná Stanica and took a 3 EUR Uber ride to the hotel. There is a dedicated line for Gold/Diamond to check-in. As a Diamond member, I was upgraded to a King One Bedroom Suite and offered complimentary breakfast at the restaurant, Opus. I asked for a 4 p.m. late check out but was told that they can only allow up to 3 p.m. And of course, I got a couple of warm DoubleTree trademark cookies.

The Suite (Room 518)

The room is fairly large. You know that you are in an old property when you see the television on a shelf instead of the wall. It was very clean though. I couldn’t find the complimentary bottles of water in the room when I arrived and had to ask of them. That was when I did a quick Google search to find out if tap water in Bratislava is safe to drink. The consensus is yes.

Location

The hotel is about 15 minutes drive away from the airport and city center. There is a huge supermarket, Billa, about 7 minutes walk away. The neighbourhood felt safe to walk around in at night.

Breakfast

Breakfast is held at Opus restaurant from 0630 – 1030 hours daily. It costs 19 EUR if you are not a Gold/Diamond member or don’t have it included in your room package. The buffet spread is fine for a European hotel and having a live egg station is definitely a plus but it is definitely not worth 19 EUR.

Conclusion

Not much of a choice if you are looking for a hotel under the Hilton family but it was a pleasant stay. The staff were courteous and breakfast was good. However, I feel that the furniture in the rooms need an update soon.
