The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali opened in 1991 with 433 rooms and was last renovated in 2012. It is a Category 5 Marriott Bonvoy property requiring 30,000 to 40,000 points per night for award stays.

Location

The hotel is located in Nusa Dua. The long stretch of beach in this area is mostly connected to 5-star hotels. It is less crowded (as compared to Seminyak beach) as it faces East (no sunset view). That’s not a bad thing as it is usually very quiet; perfect for evening walks/runs/cycles.

The hotel is located right next to The Laguna, a Luxury Collection, Nusa Dua, Bali. I had a stay there on the following day and both properties were able to communicate for my seamless transfer.

  • 20 mins drive to Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)

  • 1 hr 10 mins drive to Ubud Town

Arrival

Upon arrival, we had our temperatures taken and were assisted with our luggages before being directed to the reception.

I had booked the base Deluxe room and was upgraded to the 1-bedroom Ocean Suite as a Titanium member.

The room (Ocean Suite)

Room 3516 is 86sqm / 925sqft in size.

It is the furthest room from the lobby, right next to the beach. The room had a traditional feel and looked to be well-maintained for a property of this age.

The suite gets pretty dark at night as only some areas were lighted by spotlights.

Despite having the coast right in front of the suite, I could hardly see the ocean most of the time; only when the tide was high. The view from the room was mostly blocked by trees outside the property.

Best rooms

I usually request for a room on the highest floor possible and it must not be a connecting room (for less noise).

The best rooms are those near the beach.

Afternoon tea

This is currently the only Marriott Bonvoy property offering complimentary afternoon tea to Platinum guests and above (Sheraton Kuta offers 1 slice of cake and 1 drink). It was served at The Lobby Bar & Lounge from 3.30pm to 5pm. Quality was average.

Breakfast

Breakfast is complimentary for Platinum members and above and was served as à la carte buffet at Velada restaurant from 6.30 to 1030am.

I had the option of having breakfast sent to my room and went for it throughout my stay. Food quality was very good and delivery was always on time.

Other facilities

The swimming pool is large and runs through the middle of the resort.

The hotel has free-to-use bicycles. We cycled to the Sofitel nearby for meals at 50% off with my Accor Plus membership!

Bottom line

I was reluctant to stay in this resort because of its age but ended up absolutely loving it. For the value that I received, this stay ranked 5th among the 48 hotels that I have stayed in the past 6 months!

I loved it for the peaceful environment, especially the beach area. Having great breakfast sent to the room every morning and outstanding elite member upgrade policy made it a really enjoyable stay.

    • None. That’s because Marriott Bonvoy doesn’t require hotels to offer club lounge benefits if it is a “resort”. However, hotels like Westin Nusa Dua and Sheraton Kuta are doing something extra to make up for the lack of a club lounge.

  1. Hi

Great review! I love it. Realised you used Citi Prestige to make this booking. 1 question – Would you the booking through citi prestige would contribute towards marriott bonvoy points and nights stayed?

    Thanks!

    • Hey Jeff, yes, you will get Marriott points and elite nights when booking through Citi Prestige. Just inform the Citi Concierge that you would like them to book directly with Marriott.
