What is CardUp? How does it work?
CardUp is a bill payment service (like Citi PayAll and UOB Payment Facility) where users can earn miles on payment categories that are usually excluded from earning credit card miles or cashback, such as mortgage payments, rent, insurance premiums, taxes and school fees.
CardUp charges a 2.6% admin fee for this service, but users can often get a discounted fee when using the promo codes shared on this page.
❗Important note: From 13 Jun 2026, CardUp’s non-promotional service fee will increase from 2.6% to 2.9%. Payments charged on or after this date will reflect the new pricing, and promotional rates may also be affected.
Because of this fee, users pay more than the actual expenses to earn miles. Hence, when using CardUp, users are essentially “buying” miles, and importantly, with conditions (actual bills required). This is unlike the UOB Payment Facility, which is pretty much a no-questions-asked way to buy miles.
Note: CardUp transactions are coded as MCC 7399 (Business Services Not Elsewhere Classified). Presently, only HSBC credit cards exclude this Merchant Category Code.

- CardUp charges your credit card (bill amount + admin fee)
- CardUp sends the money to the recipient’s bank account

Best credit cards for CardUp payments
While it’s best to use specialized miles credit cards for day-to-day payments to earn 4 miles per dollar, CardUp payments are best charged to general-spending miles credit cards to earn unlimited miles on MCC 7399.
As a reminder, you’d receive miles for CardUp’s admin fee as well. Here’s how to calculate your cost per-mile (CPM) on CardUp transactions, in Singapore Dollar cents:
CPM = (Fee x 100) / ((100 + Fee) x MPD)
For example, if fee is 1.55% and earn rate is 1.4 mpd:
1.55 x 100 / ((100 + 1.55) x 1.4) = 1.09
