Discontinued: Citi Rewards Visa Card, No More Double 4 mpd Cap

Citibank emailed Citi Rewards Visa cardholders earlier this morning to announce that the card is being discontinued.

For miles chasers, the sting is that anyone holding both Citi Rewards cards loses one of them, and with it a second bonus-earning bucket on what’s probably Singapore’s best miles card.

If you only have the Citi Rewards Mastercard, you can safely ignore this news.

Citi Rewards Visa Card to be discontinued

From 15 Oct 2026, affected cardholders can no longer use their Citi Rewards Visa Card as Citibank is folding the Visa into the Citi Rewards Mastercard under its Mastercard partnership.

This morning’s notice went to holders who already have the Citi Rewards Mastercard, so their Visa card will simply be discontinued, with no replacement issued.

Continue earning Citi ThankYou Points on transactions posted on or before 14 Oct 2026. Anything posted after that date still appears on the Visa statement but earns nothing. So, to be safe, you should stop using the card on 10 or 11 Oct 2026, as any transactions made after that may not be posted in time.

Available points on the Visa card will be transferred to your Mastercard on the next business day after 14 Oct 2026 and will have the same validity period as the points already on your Mastercard.

If you paid the annual fee for the current card anniversary year, a pro-rated amount will be credited to your Mastercard within 3 weeks of 14 Oct 2026 (by 4 Nov 2026).

Impact on your 4 mpd earn capacity

Each Citi Rewards Card has its own 4 mpd cap of S$1,000 per statement month. Holding both the Visa and the Mastercard gave cardholders two separate caps, so dual cardholders could earn 4 mpd on up to S$2,000 a month. Losing the Visa removes one of those buckets.

That second card was worth up to 4,000 ultra-flexible miles per month (48,000/year).

Remember: Back in March 2020, Citibank converted four of its popular cards from Visa to Mastercard and stopped taking new Citi Rewards Visa applications. Existing Citi Rewards Visa holders kept their cards and have been able to use them since, with the card reissued on expiry. That is how a number of cardholders ended up holding both the Visa and Mastercard versions.

Things to look out for

Here are other things to look out for:

  • Earning follows the posting date, not the transaction date. Spend 3 to 4 days before 14 Oct 2026 so transactions post in time.
  • Recurring payments on the Visa are cancelled. Move any recurring billing to your Mastercard before 14 Oct 2026 to avoid missed payments.
  • Supplementary-card Citi PayAll arrangements are cancelled. Re-establish them on another eligible Citi card via the Citi Mobile App. Main-card PayAll after 14 Oct moves to the Mastercard automatically.
  • Don’t have the Mastercard version? Request a replacement via the Citi Mobile App; it arrives within 3 to 5 working days.
  • Credit Insure or Credit Insure Gold billed to the Visa keeps charging while a balance is outstanding. Cancel via CitiPhone if you no longer want it.

Is the Citi Rewards Card good?

As covered in my detailed review of the Citi Rewards Card, I see it as the best miles credit card in Singapore due to ease of use and ultra-flexible Citi miles/points.

Impact on my miles strategy

Both versions of the Citi Rewards Card have been among the top cards in my miles and credit card strategy for years. With the upcoming change, the cards below it will simply move up a spot, and the next best card for each spending category that was once covered by the Citi Rewards Visa card will be used instead.

Frequently asked questions

Citibank shared the following frequently asked questions regarding this update on the Citi Rewards Visa Card.

How do I request a replacement Citi Mastercard?

Log in to the Citi Mobile App, open Settings and More via the menu grid icon, select Report lost/stolen card under Quick Access, choose the Mastercard to replace, confirm your mailing address and submit. The replacement arrives by normal post within 3 to 5 working days.

How is the pro-rated annual fee refund calculated?

The fee applies only to full calendar months the Visa was usable. For example, if the fee posted in April 2026 and the card is discontinued in July 2026, only 2 full months are charged and the remaining 10 are waived. The refund is credited to your Mastercard within 3 weeks of the discontinuation date.

What is the validity period of the transferred ThankYou Points?

Transferred points take on the same validity period as the points already on your Mastercard. The expiry date is printed on your Mastercard statements starting 3 months before it falls due.

What happens to transactions posted after discontinuation?

They still appear on your Visa statement, but they earn no ThankYou Points, Citi Miles or cash back once the card is discontinued.

What happens to refunds posted after discontinuation?

The refund is posted to your Visa statement. Any resulting credit balance is handled per the Cardmember’s Agreement.

What happens to my credit limit?

Your combined credit limit across all your personal Citi credit cards stays the same.

What about Credit Insure or Credit Insure Gold billed to the Visa?

While there is an outstanding balance on the Visa, the premium continues to be charged. To cancel, contact the CitiPhone hotline at +65 6225 5225, 8am to 8pm daily.
