Cathay Pacific Cuts Fuel Surcharges From 16 Jul 2026

Cathay Pacific has announced that it is cutting its fuel surcharges again, the third reduction in two months. This is in response to the volatile jet fuel prices due to the Middle East situation.

Lower fuel surcharges from 16 Jul 2026

From 16 Jul 2026, Cathay Pacific is cutting its fuel surcharge by about 17% across short, medium and long-haul flights. The surcharge for flights between the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong is unchanged.

The surcharge is per flight sector and is the same across all cabin classes. It is locked in at the booking date, not the travel date.

Cathay nearly doubled these surcharges from 18 Mar 2026, then raised them again on 1 Apr 2026. The cuts since have unwound the April hike but not the March jump.

History of Cathay Pacific fuel surcharges

Rates peaked on 1 Apr 2026 and have fallen at each review since.

On long-haul segments, the surcharge is now down about 38% from the 1 Apr peak, but still around 70% above the pre-conflict level.

The surcharge is charged per flight segment and is the same in either direction. It sits on top of airport taxes and applies to Asia Miles award tickets, so it matters when booking award flights.

Remember: Fuel surcharges are locked in at your booking date, not travel date. Waiting till 16 Jul 2026 to book your award flights will save you some money, if you’re confident that the award seat will still be available then.
