Is this a good promo?

As shared in my complete review of the UOB PRVI Miles Card, it makes all the right headlines and may look amazing to newbies at first glance. However, seasoned players of the miles game know that this card is far from being the best miles card to spend with, due to a number of lesser-known reasons:

👎 Sub-optimal earn rates (under 4 mpd target)
👎 3.25% foreign currency fee
👎 Higher-than-usual annual fee (S$261.60)
👎 Annual fee payments do not come with any miles
👎 Annual fees are charged as UNI$ (less noticeable)
👎 Miles expire after just 2 years
👎 Only 2 transfer partners (lengthy transfer duration to Asia Miles)
👎 S$5 earning block (you get zero miles for all transactions under S$5)

With that in mind, the UOB PRVI Miles Card can be useful for free airport lounge access and occasional promos like this one, but only if you’re spending between S$1,500 and S$4,000 on overseas dining and shopping, and have maxed out the superior Amaze + Citi Rewards Card combo.

Also, you need to be sure that transactions are coded with the qualifying MCCs shared above. Note that merchants in Japan are known to use unrelated MCCs (e.g. dining transaction in a restaurant coded as car rental).
