Singtel-UOB Card Promo: 0.5-1% Cashback Overseas, 0% FX Fee

UOB is running a promotion for overseas foreign currency spending on the Singtel-UOB Card in the coming months.

This promo is pretty much identical to what’s offered by the UOB EVOL Card, aside from the start date.

0.5% cashback on China and Europe spending

Cardholders can receive uncapped 0.5% cashback on China and Europe spending, down from 1% in the original promo.

UOB defines Europe as the following countries: Austria; Belgium; Bulgaria; Croatia; Cyprus; Czech Republic; Denmark; Estonia; Finland (including Aland Islands); France; Germany; Gibraltar; Greece; Hungary; Iceland; Republic of Ireland; Italy; Latvia; Liechtenstein; Lithuania; Luxembourg; Malta; Mayotte; Netherlands; Norway; Poland; Portugal (including Azores, Madeira); Reunion; Romania; Slovakia; Slovenia; Spain (including Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla); Sweden.

However, UOB doesn’t provide an explicit definition of “FX Spend processed in China”, so it’s probably safest to assume that it covers the following currencies in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan:

  • Chinese Yuan (CNY)
  • Hong Kong Dollar (HKD)
  • Taiwanese Dollar (TWD)
  • Macanese Pataca (MOP)

1% cashback on other overseas spending

Singtel-UOB cardholders can receive uncapped 1% cashback on payments processed in countries/regions other than China and Europe.

What counts as “overseas spending”?

Don’t be misled by the term “overseas spending”; it doesn’t mean that you need to be physically abroad to qualify. Online spending in a foreign currency also counts, as long as the merchant processes the payment outside of Singapore.

Here’s UOB’s definition, as stated in the terms and conditions:

“Overseas Foreign Currency Spend” or “FX Spend” means Transactions which are processed outside of Singapore and successfully charged to your Card and posted on UOB’s system, in a foreign currency. Transactions which are processed outside of Singapore, but which are charged to your Card in Singapore dollars at the time of the Transaction will not constitute an Overseas Foreign Currency Spend.

Is this a good promo?

This promo makes the Singtel-UOB Card a competitive credit card for foreign currency spending until 31 Dec 2026, as cardholders can receive a net gain of 0.5-1%, uncapped and without mind-bending conditions.

However, I’d still pick the Mari Credit Card to receive 1.5% cashback (also with no FX fees) on my first S$1,500 worth of foreign currency spending every month; after maxing out my 4 mpd credit cards, of course.

0% foreign currency fee

The Singtel-UOB Card is 1 of only 6 Singapore credit cards with no foreign transaction fees, as an evergreen card benefit without conditions, caps or minimum spending requirements.

While the Singtel-UOB Card doesn’t come with other attractive benefits (unless if you spend S$200-S$250 on Singtel every month), this is a much-welcomed step in the right direction, as the majority of credit cards in Singapore charge foreign transaction junk fees upwards of 3%.
