New World of Hyatt award charts

As previously shared, World of Hyatt is implementing new award charts with mostly negative changes. We now know this will take effect from 20 May 2026, so book by 19 May 2026 to lock in the old rates for travel up to May 2027.

World of Hyatt award category changes

In general, some ultra luxury properties are going to cost even more points, and a few great “lower-end” properties are going to cost fewer points.

When will it take effect?

World of Hyatt has announced hotel category changes that will take effect for bookings (not stays) made on 20 May 2026.

Members can lock in the existing rates for bookings made before the deadline:

  • If you made a booking before 20 May 2026 for a property that is going UP a category, you will not be affected by this change.
  • If you made a booking before 20 May 2026 for a property that is going DOWN a category, you will be refunded the difference in points.

Notable properties going UP a category

From 20 May 2026, 112 properties worldwide will move up a category, in addition to the 6 announced in Feb 2026. These properties will be more expensive for points redemptions. In total, this accounts for about 8.7% of Hyatt’s global footprint.

Unfortunately, 3 properties on Suitesmile’s list of Hyatt Sweet Spots will cost more points for award stays.

These are some notable properties that will be going up a category:

Notable properties going DOWN a category

From 20 May 2026, 24 properties worldwide will move up a category, in addition to the 1 announced in Feb 2026. These properties will be more expensive for points redemptions. In total, this accounts for about 1.9% of Hyatt’s global footprint.

Frequently asked questions

World of Hyatt shared the following set of frequently asked questions regarding these changes:

1. What is changing with the World of Hyatt award chart?
The World of Hyatt award chart, which previously had three redemption levels (Off-Peak, Standard, Peak), is expanding to five redemption levels with revised point values: Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper, Top.

No. The award chart will still have eight Categories for Hotels (1-8) and six Categories for All-Inclusive Resorts (A-F).

3. Will hotels and resorts be shifting between Categories?
As is usual each year, some hotels and resorts will shift up or down between Categories.

4. When will these changes take effect?
The five new redemption levels and revised point values of the award chart will take effect on May 20, 2026.

In addition, annual Category shifts will take effect on May 20, 2026, with the exception of the seven properties below, whose Category shifts were effective February 25, 2026:

  • The Barnett, part of JdV by Hyatt, moved from Category 5 to Category 4

9. Are promotional awards impacted?
No, Category 1-4 and Category 1-7 Free Night Awards will not be impacted. While the award will not be impacted, as is typical each year, hotels may shift up or down in category.

10. How will a night’s redemption level be determined?
The night’s redemption level will be based on anticipated demand.

11. Are we moving to dynamic pricing for award nights?
No, World of Hyatt will continue to have a fixed award chart.

12. How often will redemption levels be updated?
Redemption levels will be reviewed periodically and updated if needed.

13. I’m an Explorist, Globalist, Lifetime Globalist, or World of Hyatt Cardmember. How will I access the early award night availability once available?
Once available, sign into your World of Hyatt account prior to completing your stay search. Award night availability will show as applicable.

14. When will the changes to the award chart become effective?
All changes to the award chart will take effect on May 20, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. CT.

15. Why are hotels shifting Categories?
Every year World of Hyatt performs an audit of the number of points required to redeem a free night and Points + Cash at each property. A hotel’s Award Category may be adjusted based on the current market conditions.

16. How will hotels shift between Categories?
Some hotels will move to a higher Category and some hotels will move to a lower Category.

17. How many hotels are shifting to a higher Category?
112 hotels will move to a higher Award Category. Free night award redemptions at these hotels may require additional World of Hyatt points for reservations made or changed beginning 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026.

18. How many hotels are shifting to a lower Category?
24 hotels will move to a lower Award Category. Free night award redemptions at these hotels may require fewer World of Hyatt points for reservations or changed made beginning 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026.

19. For free night award redemption reservations made before 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, which award chart will be effective?
All free night award redemptions booked before 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, will follow the current award chart. For example, if you book an award night prior to 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, for a stay that occurs on May 20 or after, the current award chart will apply. Any free night award redemptions booked or changed at 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, or after will follow the new award chart.

20. For Category 1-4 award (including World of Hyatt Credit Card Anniversary Free Night Award) and Category 1-7 award reservations made before 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, which award chart will be effective?
All Category 1-4 and 1-7 Free Night Awards booked before 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, will follow the current award chart. For example, if you book a Category 1-4 or 1-7 Free Night Award night prior to 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, for a stay that occurs on May 20, 2026, or after the current award chart will apply. Any Category 1-4 or 1-7 Free Night Award redemptions booked or changed at 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, or after will follow the new award chart.

21. How will award nights booked prior to 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, be impacted if the hotel I am staying at now requires more points?
Any Free Night or Points + Cash Award booked prior to 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, at a property that is shifting to a higher Category and will require more points will not be affected. Reservations will remain in place at the originally booked point level. For example, a Free Night Award booked at a Category 1 hotel for 5,000 points before 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, will remain at 5,000 points even if the hotel shifts to Category 2. If the member subsequently cancels this Free Night Award, only 5,000 points will be returned to the member’s account because the member only used 5,000 points originally.

22. How will award nights booked prior to 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, be impacted if the hotel I am staying at now requires fewer points?
Any Free Night or Points + Cash Award booked prior to 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, for nights on or after May 20, 2026, at a property that is shifting to a lower Category and will require fewer points will receive an adjustment starting on May 21, 2026. If the reservation that received an adjustment is canceled, the adjusted points total will be returned to the member’s account. For example, a member with a Free Night Award booked before 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, for a Category 2 hotel for 8,000 points that is moving to a Category 1 hotel that requires 6,000 points at 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, will receive 2,000 points returned to his/her account. If the member subsequently cancels this Free Night Award, only 6,000 points will be returned to the member’s account because 2,000 points will already have been returned.

23. Starting at 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, how will modifications to existing reservations be handled?
Any modifications made to reservations on or after 8:00 a.m. CT, May 20, 2026, will follow the terms of the new Award Chart. Any modifications to Category 1-4 or 1-7 Award Night reservations that cause an award to be reissued cannot be redeemed for hotels that moved above Category 4 or 7, respectively, as part of these changes.
