Pros & cons of HSBC miles
Miles/Points earned on the HSBC TravelOne Card offer greater flexibility than those earned through other Singapore banks’ credit cards, but they have one major disadvantage.
Advantages of HSBC miles/points:
✅ Miles expire 3 years after they are earned
Keep the miles in your card for as long as 3 years after they are earned, and transfer to a preferred Frequent Flyer Program (FFP) only when you’re ready to make an award redemption.
✅ Access to 7 useful frequent flyer programs
This gives you more award availability and award rates to compare.
✅ Free miles transfers
Miles transfers to FFPs are free, but note the minimum amount of 10,000 miles (25k points).
✅ Instant miles transfers
Miles transfers from the HSBC TravelOne Card to all useful FFPs are instant.
✅ Pool miles with other HSBC cards
Miles earned on the HSBC TravelOne Card can be pooled with those earned on other HSBC cards (such as the HSBC Revolution Card) and transferred together.
Disadvantage of HSBC miles/points:
❌ Miles transfers to KrisFlyer come with a poor transfer ratio (17% fewer miles)
✈️ Singapore credit card transfer partners
Is the HSBC TravelOne Card good?
The HSBC TravelOne Card is not a great card for spending due to poor earn rates of 1.2 miles per dollar (mpd) on SGD transactions and 2.4 mpd on foreign currency transactions (with 3.25% FX junk fee).
While these earn rates are uncapped, you’d probably take a long time to accumulate enough miles for a meaningful award redemption, unless you’re spending tens of thousands of dollars on the card every month.

With that said, the HSBC TravelOne Card is useful for:
- Good sign-up bonuses
- Free airport lounge access
- As a last-resort card (when the bonus caps on your 4 mpd cards are maxed out)
Get 4 free airport lounge visits per year, earn 1.2 mpd on local spending and 2.4 mpd on foreign currencies
