Cathay Pacific Promo: 10-30% Miles Rebate On Award Flights

Cathay Pacific Asia Miles is running a flash deal till the end of 2025, offering 10-30% rebate on miles redeemed for flights to from selected cities.

The frequent flyer program ran a similar promo in 2024.

What counts as a sector?

To qualify, your booking(s) must include Cathay Pacific-operated flight(s) that originates or ends in Hong Kong. Here are some examples:

Eligible bookings:

✅ One-way Singapore – Hong Kong (1 sector)
✅ One-way Hong Kong – Bangkok (1 sector)
✅ Roundtrip Singapore – Hong Kong (2 sectors)

Ineligible bookings:

❌ One-way Singapore – Shanghai (with a transit in HKG)
❌ One-way Singapore – Taipei (with a transit in HKG)
❌ Roundtrip Singapore – Beijing – Singapore (with transits in HKG)

The terms and conditions mentioned that the rebate will be determined by the total number of sectors made during the entire promo period, so, there’s no need to include as many sectors as possible in a single booking.

For example, if you book a one-way Cathay Pacific-operated flight from Singapore to Hong Kong, it would count as 1 sector, and you’d qualify for a 10% miles rebate.

If you later book a one-way flight from Hong Kong to Taipei, you’d clock 1 additional sector to bring your total count to 2 sectors and qualify for a 20% miles rebate.

But….is it worth it?

Should you make separate bookings to “clock” 4 sectors?

While trying to make multiple bookings to “chase” 4 required sectors to qualify for a 30% miles rebate, keep in mind that your overall award rate may be higher if Hong Kong is not your intended destination.

So, you’d need to calculate if making 2 bookings (e.g. SIN-HKG + HKG-XXX) with miles rebate costs less than making 1 booking without miles rebate (e.g. SIN-HKG-XXX).

This card gives you a strong earn rate of 4 miles per dollar on selected spending categories like flights, hotels, dining, shopping (in-person & online), food deliveries, entertainment and foreign currencies (overseas & online), when spending at least $500 and up to $1,000 per calendar month.

But oldies beware, this card is only available to those aged 21 to 39 years old.

Qualifying transactions:
Only whitelisted Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) for each spending category qualify for the bonus earn rate. Unsure about the MCC? Check before making the payment.

However, if you’re spending in a foreign currency, it doesn’t matter what the MCC is, provided it doesn’t fall under the general exclusions stated in the t&c. What’s great is that typically-excluded spending categories like Utilities, Medical and Education qualify for the 4 mpd earn rate, when paying in a foreign currency.

All other transactions earn just 0.4 mpd (uncapped).
