Eight offers great roaming benefits (data and voice) with monthly plans starting from just $8 (4G) and $14.80 (5G), making it really popular among frequent travellers (even to Johor Bahru).

With the cheapest $8 plan, customers currently get a generous 388GB in SG and MY data and 10GB in selected Asia Pacific countries, plus, 288 mins in IDD talktime.

I’ve been an Eight customer for over a year now, and I enjoy the fact that there’s no need to purchase SIM or eSIM cards whenever I travel. If I need more roaming data, I’d simply upgrade to a higher Eight plan in the app for only 30 days, before downgrading back to my preferred plan when I’m back in Singapore.

As a bonus, I can even make and receive phone calls when overseas at no charge, as long as I’m on a VoLTE-supported network. Not on a supported VoLTE network when overseas? The call simply will not go through. No bill shocks!

What’s bad about Eight?

Eight has developed a bit of a bad reputation with their weak 4G network at crowded places (MRT stations, bus interchanges, concerts, malls etc.). This is likely due to low network priority and has been widely-discussed in online forums like Reddit, Facebook and HardwareZone Forum.

I’ve read a lot less complaints from Eight’s 5G customers though, so, consider the 5G plan (from $14.80/30 days) if you regularly experience connectivity issues on the 4G network.

Eight’s $88 + $88 promo

As originally shared in our travel-hacking Telegram group, Eight is running a flash deal from 14 to 16 December 2025, offering $88 bonus credit to customers who top up exactly $88 into their main balance, in 1 transaction.

This card gives you a strong earn rate of 4 miles per dollar on online spending, up to $1,000 per statement month, with no minimum spending requirement. This covers a wide range of spending categories like online shopping, ride-hailing, food delivery and even phone/internet bills.

Cardholders can also earn 4 mpd on in-person shopping at stores that sell shoes and bags and clothes as their main business activity.

Take note that cardholders will only earn 0.4 mpd on travel-related categories (e.g. flights and hotels) and spending above $1,000 per statement month.

Having many transfer partners and up to 5-year expiry term gives you fantastic flexibility. However, take note that your points’ expiry term starts from the date the card is opened (i.e. not from the transaction date).
