HSBC announced today that the HSBC Everyday+ Rewards Programme will soon stop awarding cashback on GIRO transactions. This effectively puts an end to what’s probably the greatest-ever miles hack in Singapore, yes, better than any Miles credit cards out there.

No more cashback on GIRO transactions
From 1 Nov 2025, HSBC EGA account holders can no longer earn cashback on GIRO bill payments, including credit card bills. This complete removal comes after the cashback amount was cut from 1% to 0.5% just a few months ago.

Probably the greatest-ever miles hack in Singapore
A little tl;dr for those who missed out:
HSBC EGA bank account holders could set up GIRO payments to pay their credit cards bills, and receive 1% cashback on them. In other words, get +1% cashback on top of all credit card miles/cashback.
The hack: Buy miles through payment facilities like UOB Payment Facility or Citi PayAll, receive 1% cashback on the entire “bill”, even though you’re only actually paying the fee. It was an opportunity to acquire miles for less than 1 cent each, without buying anything.
