UOB One card has announced changes to how cardholders earn cashback on the card.
Why is the UOB One card popular?
Firstly, I should be clear that “popular” doesn’t necessarily mean “best”. If your spending pattern fits the Maybank Family & Friends and DBS yuu cards, they should be prioritized to earn 8 to 18% cashback.

There are 3 main reasons why the UOB One card is probably the most popular cashback card in Singapore:
- Earn up to 3.33% cashback on almost everything (not as liberal as Maybank Platinum Visa though)
- Earn higher interest on UOB One account with min. S$500 monthly spending (although there are other UOB cards that qualify too)
- Higher cashback of up to 8.33 to 10% at selected merchants like Giant, Cold Storage, Grab and Shopee (changing soon)
- Up to 4.33% cashback on SP Group utilities spending

Updated spending tiers
Moving forward, UOB One card has made a pretty minor adjustment to its spending tiers. This will kick in from the next qualifying quarter for existing UOB One cardholders. For new UOB One cardholders who applied from 1 Jul 2025 onwards, this will be in effect immediately.
The key changes to the spending tiers are:
- Tier 1 now requires a minimum spending of S$600 per statement month (up from S$500)
- Tier 1 now awards S$60 cashback per quarter (up from S$50, same earn rate)
- Cardholders need to perform at least 10 transactions per statement month (up from 5)

This change would make the UOB One card not useful for low-spending cardholders. Consider the Maybank Platinum Visa card to get up to 3.33% cashback on just S$300 worth of monthly spending.
Changes to bonus cashback
This is probably the more impactful change.
No more 10% cashback on Groceries
Cardholders can no longer earn up to 8.33 to 10% cashback on transactions made at DFI Retail Group (i.e. Giant, Cold Storage, Guardian, 7-Eleven etc.).
Instead, there is now a new bonus category: Grocery. Cardholders can earn up to 8% cashback on all Grocery spending with Merchant Category Code (MCC) 5411 (Grocery Stores, Supermarkets).
Bonus cashback will now be capped at S$120 per month, up from S$100.

Bonus cashback on Groceries:
- Tier 1: No bonus cashback
- Tier 2: Up to 6% cashback (+2.67% bonus)
- Tier 3: Up to 8% cashback (+4.67% bonus)

No more 10% cashback at UOB Travel
On top of that, UOB One cardholders will no longer earn bonus cashback on UOB Travel spending. This is honestly not a big loss, as UOB Travel tend to inflate flights and hotel prices, which negates any savings or rewards you may earn.
