Can you travel without an approved ETA?
As mentioned in the official ETA guide, you have to apply for an ETA before travelling to the UK, and can begin your journey (flight/train/bus/car/ferry) while waiting for the ETA decision.
So, technically, if you forgot to apply for one in advance, you can still board the flight to the UK with a pending application.
❗However, an ill-informed airline check-in staff may deny you from boarding, or cause unnecessary delays and stress. Over the years, I’ve had plenty of unpleasant experiences with such staff, and I strongly recommend that you apply for a UK ETA at least one week before your trip.
