Guide: How to completely withdraw your $200 NS LifeSG credits in cash

In recognition of their contributions to Singapore’s defence and security, the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) are progressively disbursing $200 in LifeSG credits for all eligible past and present national servicemen.

Unfortunately, the disbursement is not provided in cash, but it is possible to fully liquidate it with some simple steps.

Where will the $200 be credited to?

Eligible national servicemen should receive $200 credits in their LifeSG mobile app by 30 November 2024, and an SMS will be sent once the credits have been disbursed.

You can download the LifeSG app on Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

1) Check if your $200 LifeSG credits are in

Check your LifeSG app, to see if the $200 credits are in. Once you’ve received the SMS notification, it’s likely that your $200 credits are already disbursed into your account.

I received the SMS from gov.sg on 1 Nov 2024, and saw the $200 credits reflected in the LifeSG app (scroll all the way down on the home screen).

2) Check if you have a YouTrip account

It may be possible to cash out through other methods, but I found this YouTrip method to be the simplest.

Firstly, of course, you’ll need a YouTrip account. If you don’t have one, you may sign up (for free) using my link to receive an additional $5.

3) Get the PayNow QR code from YouTrip

Now that you’ve received the credits, it’s time to cash them out!

Complete these steps to get your PayNow QR code from YouTrip:

  1. Open your YouTrip app
  2. Tap on Top Up
  3. Enter $200 as the top-up amount
  4. Tap on Generate QR Code
  5. When you see the QR code, tap on Save to Photos, or screenshot it

  1. Thanks for the great hack, just the linking of the bank account and method of transfer is a bit confusing, otherwise is just waiting few mins from installing to getting the money in my bank is about 25mins or less. Thanks for the referral bonus, mutual win

  2. Really great advice and method to get your cash 100%, unlike the Sheng Shiong cash machine that have fee to make you can’t fully withdraw and you will be left with some leftover on the LifeSG account, which would be a waste if you can’t spend it to empty. Overall, the instruction is clear and simple.

The only thing I want to mention is that I can’t transfer the bonus $5 from the referral link. I’m not complaining though, I can only transfer my own $200 instead of $205, but at least I can transfer my own money, so that’s that.

  8. transferred to youtrip but no records on LifeSG and youtrip not showing the balance. Any ideas? Maybe a trip to Sheng Shiong might be safer.
