What benefits to expect when you stay at Four Points by Sheraton Desaru as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium or Platinum Elite member?
The property opened in 2021 with a total of 311 guest rooms. That’s a lot of rooms for a hotel located in a small town!
This property is a Marriott Bonvoy award sweet spot. Purchasing and redeeming Marriott points is often cheaper than paying the cash rate.

Location
This hotel is located in Bandar Penawar, Johor. It is not located within walking distance to Desaru beach, and driving is the only convenient way to get here.
There are plenty of small shops and restaurants nearby.

Arrival
Upon arrival, we were assisted with our luggages before being shown to the carpark.
I’d booked the base room, and was upgraded to the Premium King room, as a Titanium Elite member.

Premium King Room
This room type is 38sqm (409sqft) in size.
The Studio is a corner room with a tiny view of the beach. It has modern furnishing and comes with a walk-in closet. I’m not sure why anyone on vacation would want a walk-in closet, but I’m guessing that this is the default Bridal room, for guests who are holding their wedding here.
I’d informed the hotel that I was spending my birthday in Desaru, and was sent a cheesecake, along with the standard amenity of a plate of fruits.
Breakfast
Breakfast was held as a buffet at The Mesh restaurant.
Food quality from the buffet and live cooking stations was very good, for a hotel at this price point.
Internet speed
The WiFi speed was good enough for light web surfing.

Bottom line
Four Points Desaru is not located in a great location for beach-hunting tourists, but it is a quality hotel nonetheless. For what you get, the average cash rates are overpriced (MYR 300+), but award rates are very attractive.
This hotel also happens to be the closest mileage-run-worthy Marriott Bonvoy property to Singapore-based travellers.
