What benefits to expect when you stay at Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur, as a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium or Platinum Elite member?

The hotel was built in 2004, and last renovated in 2016. It has a total of 420 rooms.

Location

The hotel is located in central Kuala Lumpur, directly connected to KL Sentral train station, where there are high-speed trains to the airport.

Interestingly, this hotel is also connected to a hotel from a rival chain, Hilton Kuala Lumpur. Having stayed in Hilton KL a few years ago as a Diamond member, I was really keen to find out how this property compares.

  • 5 mins walk to KL Sentral train station
  • 5 mins walk to NU Sentral mall
  • 25 mins to Petronas Twin Towers
  • 30 mins train to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL)
  • 40 mins train to Batu Caves
  • 50 mins drive to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL)

Arrival

Upon arrival, we were assisted with our luggages before being directed to the carpark.

Lobby

As breakfast is complimentary to Platinum members and above, I could choose from 2 welcome gifts. I went for the points, which brings my net cost for this stay under 15k points.

Le Meridien Suite

Room 2259 is 69sqm (742sqft) in size.

At first glance, the room looked fresher than the oddly-shaped one that I stayed in, at the Hilton next door. Furnishing felt more modern here.

I’ve always enjoyed having local snacks as part of the welcome amenity on my stays, instead of a basket of fruits!

From the room, I could see the swimming pool, which is shared with Hilton KL.

Club Lounge

Platinum members and above have access to the Executive Lounge all day, with the Evening Cocktail being served at specific hours daily.

The lounge is beautiful, with a tall ceiling, loads of natural light and a great panoramic view of the city.

All-Day refreshment

Eligible guests can visit the lounge and help themselves to some cakes and cookies, with coffee, tea or juices all day.

Evening Cocktail

I remembered sharing a poll on Instagram Story a few years back, to find out what is the best Club Lounge that one can access, without additional charges, when booking a Base room.

Obviously, the one at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Pacific Place is the undisputed champion. The fact that all guests have access to the stellar Club Lounge, is simply amazing.

In that poll, Le Méridien KL came in second, and I can see why! Instead of trying to serve you dinner, the hotel does it the “correct” way, and does it really well, with great flavours and presentation of canapés.

So, was it the second-best Club Lounge that I’ve visited? Hmmm, I don’t know. While the no. 1 is clear, I feel like there are 5 or 6 hotels tied for second place, and this was one of them.

Breakfast

Breakfast is complimentary for Platinum members and above. It was held as a buffet at Latest Recipe restaurant.

The buffet was extensive, and food quality was very good.

Internet speed

The WiFi speed was good enough for light web surfing.

Other facilities

As mentioned above, the swimming pool is divided into two sections, one for the Le Méridien, and another for the Hilton.

It is pretty long, but very narrow in some parts.

The gym, located in Hilton KL, is well-equipped, but I found it pretty small, especially as it is shared between 2 large hotels.

Bottom line

It’s nice to have finally stayed in this hotel, as it’s been in my wish list for a long time. This was the 17th Marriott Bonvoy hotel that I have reviewed, in the KL/Selangor area!

For a hotel built 20 years ago, costing me just 14.5k points, Le Méridien Kuala Lumpur exceeded my expectations with its quality in every area, with the added bonus of being in a superb location for tourists.

If you’re a Marriott Bonvoy Elite member looking for a stay in KL/Selangor, you’d be spoilt for choice. There are some amazing properties here for under 25k points.
