Cathay Pacific Asia Miles is running an offer for credit card miles/points conversion from its finance partners.
Asia Miles is running fairly regular transfer bonuses in recent years, with the most recent one just 3 months ago.
Key points to note
- Get 15% bonus miles when you transfer at least 30,000 miles from your credit card to Asia Miles
- Get 10% bonus miles if you transfer less than 30,000 miles
- Offer is valid from 13 September to 12 November 2022
- Registration is required
- There is no limit to the number of bonus miles that can be earned
- Bonus miles will be credited 8 to 10 weeks after the end of the offer (by 21 Jan 2023)
- Renew unused miles earned before 1 January 2020 when you convert at least 30,000 miles
Best ways to redeem Asia Miles
I wrote an Asia Miles sweet spot article a couple of years back but because of the pandemic situation in Hong Kong (affecting Cathay Pacific) and the high fuel surcharges on Qatar Airways, these are the only good Asia Miles redemptions at the moment:
Finnair Economy Class
- Bangkok to Helsinki: 27k miles + ~US$50 taxes/fees
- Southeast Asia to Europe: 35k miles + ~US$50 taxes/fees
With this 15% transfer bonus, you will only require about 23k and 30k miles respectively!
Finnair Business Class
- Bangkok to Helsinki: 61k miles + ~US$50 taxes/fees
- Southeast Asia to Europe: 70k miles + ~US$50 taxes/fees
With this 15% transfer bonus, you will only require about 53k and 61k miles respectively!
Japan Airlines Business Class
- Southeast Asia to Honolulu: 75k miles + ~US$300 taxes/fees
With this 15% transfer bonus, you will only require about 65k miles!
How to find oneworld award availability
The easiest way to find Finnair or Japan Airlines award availability is on American Airlines’ website, aa.com.
This is because, you are able to set filters like “non-stop flights only” and “business/first class only” and have a lovely calendar view of award availability.
Additional note: Use aa.com only as a reference and always cross-check on cathaypacific.com. In other words ignore the amount of miles shown on aa.com; use it only as a tool to search for availability.
You may also look for oneworld Business Class award availability with the calendar view on alaskaair.com.
Is this a good deal?
This is only a good deal if you plan to fly on one of the above sweet spots.
It is also worth noting that Asia Miles expiry are very easily extendable with at least one account activity every 18 months. The easiest way to do this is by clicking through Asia Miles’ shopping portal the next time you shop online.
Bottom line
Asia Miles is offering 15% bonus miles for credit card transfers. Unless if you have plans to book one of its sweet spots on Finnair or Japan Airlines, I would sit this one out.
I would need the transfer bonus to be around 25% – 30% to consider speculatively transferring my credit card miles/points into Asia Miles.
