American Airlines is running a good deal for Economy Class flights from Seoul, South Korea to Latin America with a free stopover in American cities.
How to see this price?
You have to start and end in Seoul. The furthest destination has to be either Bogota, Lima, Cusco, Santiago, Buenos Aires or Sao Paolo. You can simply search for round trip flights from Seoul to Lima, for example, and you will see available flights for under $900. If you are not able to get this price, have a look at our guide to find good flight prices. Book directly at aa.com once you found the right price for your preferred dates.
How to position yourself in Seoul?
The cheapest way to take advantage of this deal is to position yourself to Seoul via Vietnam Airlines. You can find round trip flights for around $542 fairly easily. This will bring your total damage to $1,374 ($832 + $542).
How to route for maximum value?
You can visit Seoul, Dallas, Lima and Miami at no extra cost. All you have to do is to perform a multi-city search on Google Flights.
Open jaw in South America
If you want to visit more than one city in South America, you may also search an open jaw route. I managed to find the example below for slightly cheaper. Do note that you will have to book a flight from Buenos Aires to Lima separately.
Where to credit?
You will be booked into fare class ‘O’. Even though American Airlines is a partner of Alaska Airlines, you will no longer earn Alaska miles on international flights with American Airlines from 1 March 2020. There are no attractive options besides 100% accrual for the ICN-DFW legs with Korean Air Skypass.
Which card to use?
I recommend using GrabPay Mastercard after topping it up with Citibank Rewards Visa for 4 miles per dollar MPD). Another option is using DBS Woman’s World or even OCBC 90°N if you don’t mind being limited to just one transfer partner. Earning 4 MPD with this purchase will give you about 5,500 miles (worth $99).
Citibank Rewards
Annual fee: $192.60 (First year waived)
Minimum annual income: $30,000
DBS Woman’s World
Annual fee: $192.60 (First year waived)
Minimum annual income: $80,000
OCBC 90°N
Annual fee: $192.60 (First year waived)
Minimum annual income: $30,000
Conclusion
We do not see a lot of deals between Asia and South America. Although this counts as a good deal, what makes it really good is the number of free stops that you can make along the way. If you are in the mood to visit Seoul, Dallas, Miami and a Latin America city, you will not find a better deal than this.
