Best Miles Credit Cards in Singapore (earn 4 miles per dollar)

At a glance: Best Miles credit cards

Due to insane credit card nerfs and award devaluations in recent years, earning miles through credit cards is now more difficult and flight redemptions are more expensive, making it harder than ever to accumulate enough miles for a worthwhile redemption.

The goal is to spend with Miles credit cards that award 4 miles per dollar on your spending and prioritize those with better miles flexibility.

Start with the Citi Rewards Card and go down the 4 mpd list for spending categories that are not covered by it, or when you’ve maxed out the bonus spending cap.

Lastly, don’t feel bad about utilizing easy-to-use Cashback cards when you’ve maxed out the bonus caps on 4 mpd cards. Understand that Miles are not priceless; don’t be that guy who chooses to earn 1.4 mpd instead of 5% cashback.

Best Miles credit cards to earn 4 miles per dollar

Specialized Miles credit cards offer an earn rate of 4 miles per dollar (4 mpd) on bonus spending categories, about 3x faster than general spending Miles cards. The catch is that they come with monthly caps. So, the general idea is to prioritize the 4 mpd cards that suit your spending pattern and go down the order if/when the bonus limit on one card is maxed out.

Other 4+ mpd cards

Credit card providers are getting creative in packaging high earn rates to target those who are unreasonably obsessed with miles. These cards have very specific use cases and shouldn’t be a priority to earn miles.

DBS yuu Card

Earn 18% cash rebate or 10 miles per dollar when you spend at least S$800 per calendar month, up to S$822.86 in the same period.

This is a brilliant cashback card if you regularly spend at the limited merchants. However, redeeming yuu points to earn 10 mpd (instead of 18% cash rebate) is like paying 1.8 cents per mile; that’s pricey as you can simply buy miles outright for cheaper, without wasting effort tracking min./max. monthly spend on the card.

It’s fine if you want to redeem small amounts of yuu points to top up KrisFlyer miles for an award redemption. Aside from that, this should be treated as a cashback card.
