Best Credit Cards for Air Tickets (Miles vs Cashback)

At a glance: Best credit cards for Air Tickets

Choose from a number of great miles and cashback credit cards for air tickets to earn up to 4 miles per dollar or 5% cashback.

Top Miles credit card for Air Tickets

The easiest miles credit card to use for flight bookings is the DBS Woman’s World Card, which only requires you to transact online to earn 4 mpd and isn’t MCC-sensitive. However, note the S$1,000 monthly cap, which may be too low for this category.

For larger transactions, consider using multiple 4 mpd cards (if booking for more than 1 pax) or the Maybank Horizon Visa Signature Card for a higher monthly cap, albeit with a lower earn rate of 2.8 mpd.

Top Cashback credit card for Air Tickets

The best cashback credit card for flight bookings is the Maybank XL Cashback Card, which awards 5% cashback up to S$1,600 per month.

Typical Air Ticket MCCs

Some credit cards only award bonus miles or cashback on specific MCCs, which may be accepted differently by each MCC-sensitive card, so refer to the card’s terms and conditions in the reviews below.

Flight bookings on major airlines typically come with the airline’s own MCC (ranging from 3000 to 3299), while those on smaller/low-cost airlines (e.g. Scoot, AirAsia) are categorized under the generic MCC 4511.

Here are some airlines with their own MCCs:

  • 3075: Singapore Airlines
  • 3099: Cathay Pacific
  • 3136: Qatar Airways
  • 3026: Emirates

⚠️ Warning: Flight bookings on online travel agencies (OTAs) like Agoda, Expedia and Trip.com fall under MCC 4722, which doesn’t qualify for bonus miles on the HSBC Revolution Card.
